Brave Bull

Happy National Tequila Day!!  It's Thursday and today I feel like I "finally" was able to accomplish a lot of the stuff that I have wanted to do before the weekend.  Don't get me wrong I still have a long list of stuff to do, but the stuff I have done was the BIG stuff, so yeay for a productive day!!

When most of us think "tequila" we think margaritas!!  Well at least I do....  That is why I wanted to stray away from the margarita (and many delicious flavors they bring) and give you a different kind of tequila.  WISH I HADN'T.  This cocktail is NOT one that I would ever with upon my enemy....ok, well.....maybe just to see their face when they drank it.  If you don't know, I am NOT a tequila fan....at all.  I can drink it in a mixed drink where the "main" flavor is NOT tequila, but I can not take a shot of it....at all.  Bad experience in my younger years has ruined tequila for me, yuck!

This cocktail, if you haven't guessed already, is mostly a tequila tasting one.  I really wish that the Kahlua had more presence in it, but it doesn't, boo.  I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm sure there are those of you out there who really do enjoy tequila.....if you are a Brave enough Bull, go ahead and try it!  If you do, please let me know what you think of it!!

Here is the recipe for a Brave Bull:

  • 2 ounces tequila (silver)
  • 1 ounce Kahlua
In a short cocktail glass filled with ice, pour in your two ingredients, swirl and......try to enjoy?

Here's to National Tequila Day!  May your cocktails taste 1000% better then the one I just tried!!

Jellyfish (shooter)

Is this week over yet?  Is it Friday yet?  Wait........I'm not ready for the weekend yet, so it can't be here already....I just REALLY need this week to be over already.  Needless to say these past 3 days have been....crazy.

Last Friday our oldest took his test at the DMV to get his permit.  Passed!!  Yesterday he had his first official "behind the wheel" instruction.  Now that his first 2 hours are done, he can now drive with a licensed driver 35 or older!  So today....he and I took our first drive.  He "very willingly" drove me to Target, he did great!  We are slowly working towards those 50 hours of driving he and I (or my husband, my folks, his aunts/uncles) have to complete, yeay!!

I wanted to make a fun shooter today so I searched online.  I found the same recipe for a Jellyfish shooter over and over again, so I thought I'd give it a try.  It's a fun shooter to make and a nice quick one to drink.  I have made one similar in the past, Brain Hemorrhage, which was really good.  This one was easier to get down because there wasn't as much of the "hanging baileys" in the middle as there was in the Brain Hemorrhage.  All in all it was a pretty yummy shooter.

Here is the recipe for a Jellyfish:

  • 1/2 ounce white creme de cacao
  • 1/2 ounce amaretto
  • 1/2 ounce Irish Cream liqueur
  • 4 drops grenadine
In a shot glass, pour in the first two ingredients.  Next layer the Irish Cream on top of them.  With a straw drip 4 drops of grenadine in the middle.

Here's to another fun shooter!

Banana Slip

I need to say that I can NOT believe how long it's been since my last post.  These past 2 weeks have been absolutely insane.......I'm surprised I haven't have more cocktails.  We celebrated my birthday with some friends on Saturday, which was a total blast!  Had a few margaritas, a few shots of Fireball (by itself......no mixing needed) and a couple beers.  Yea.......it was a good night!

I haven't done a layered shooter in a while, so a I thought I'd do one.  I found a few online that look "interesting" so be ready!  I also was told of a Fireball cocktail a reader of mine makes at her house (which I'm totally going to try), as well as another shooter Fireball posted on Facebook not too long ago.  Needless to say, I've got some cocktails on the way.

This shooter is OK.  It doesn't scream "I'm the best shooter in the world".......yet it's not the worst.  The equal amounts of both liqueurs seem to sort of cancel each other out, so this shooter doesn't taste like either one too much......just a blend of both.  It was worth trying, since I love creme de banana, but I won't be trying it again.

Here is the recipe for a Banana Slip:

  • 3/4 ounce creme de banana
  • 3/4 ounce Irish Cream
In a shot glass, pour in your creme de banana.  Next over the back of a spoon, layer the Irish Cream on top.

Sapphire Alpine

Happy Wednesday!  In case you were wondering.......tomorrow's my birthday!  Thrillsville.  Ha, no I meant yeay it's my birthday tomorrow, but you know.....once you have kids (or at least for me) you kind of really don't care a whole lot about your birthday.  I honestly don't know it's coming until the kids get wind of it, and then they talk about it over and over and over.  Then I realize....Dang it's been another year, hasn't it?

We have 2 days left until the 4th of July!  We all love that holiday around here.  If you need to be inspired with more Red, White & Blue things for the 4th, here are my Pinterest boards for you to take a look at: My Patriotic Cocktails & Shooters, Patriotic Yummies and Patriotic Crafts.

Sticking with the gin theme, I wanted to find a blue cocktail to make as the 4th approaches.  I found this cocktail at about.com.  Well I'll tell you.....it's blue for sure.....I even have some blue under a couple of my nails.  This cocktail kinda.......tingles/burns the back of my throat (how's that for honesty).  It's flavor is...OK, I do taste all of the ingredients...but I have to say that these three ingredients have been in better cocktails.  Well, like I said.....it's blue for sure!

Here is the recipe for a Sapphire Alpine:

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • 1 ounce peach schnapps
In a shaker, add ice and all three of the ingredients above.  Shake and strain into a martini glass.

Here's to everyone having a wonderful Fourth of July!  I hope you have time to celebrate and maybe even see some fireworks!
