Hello and welcome to the Cocktail Lady’s blog!  I have a challenge at hand, to try a new and different cocktail everyday for One Whole Year!  And believe me, I’m up for the challenge!

Now I have my few cocktails that I always order, Vodka Cran, Rum & Coke, or a beer, they’re all good…but very predictable.  After consistently ordering or making them they tend to get BORING for me.  Instead of drinking the same cocktails, I’m now on a year long challenge to find, make, drink and blog about a new and different drink every day.

I ask of you to follow me through this next year, try some of the cocktails (or shoot try them all!) I try, and even send me your recipes for your favorite cocktails.  Check back in with me, because your cocktail just may be featured as one of my 365 cocktails I try this year!

Sincerely,
The Cocktail Lady

  1. Dearest Cocktail Lady,

I have been reading your blog for several weeks now. You are quite entertaining! I love the witty comments. I too do not particularly care for gin and am just finding my way back to tequila after, shall we say a night when tequila won many years ago. Anyway, the point to my writing to you is to ask if you ever considered making your own sweet and sour? I noticed it is in quite a few cocktails and I can not stomach the store bought stuff. So I make my own out of lemon, lime either sugar or agave syrup and keep it handy in the fridge. It provides a tastiness to the cocktails, especially my margaritas that makes my house popular. Also, I just adore the Pinapple Fondue. Love, love, love it.

  2. Welcome Jill!! I'm so very excited that you found and like my blog!! I had the same horrible experience many years ago with tequila. Tequila kicked my butt and won as well. The smell of Cuervo makes me gag and run away. If some of my friends bring patron or a silver tequila over, I can "kinda" get a wiff of it and not run, but will not request it on purpose, haha.

I haven't thought of making my own sweet & sour. It sounds like a fun idea! Would you be willing to share your recipe?

If you have any favorite cocktail recipes that you'd like me to try as well, please send them to me :) I look forward to hearing from you! Keep in touch!!

  3. Hello,
You are welcome to the recipe it is quite simple and adapted from Cook's Illustrated.

Zest of 6 lemons and 6 limes.
Juice of said lemons and limes.
1 cup of sugar or agave nectar.
    Mix thoroughly.
Let sit in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. It takes a while for the sugar to dissolve.

This concoction will be enough for a pitcher of margaritas, or several cocktails.
I almost always have some brewing in my fridge.
It lends a fresher taste to the cocktails. Although if you run out and you don't have back up plans. You are done drinking for the evening.

  4. I can't stand the store bought cocktail mix either, here is my recipe for Sour Mix. I am doing a similar challenge this year but it is 365 days of travel destinations with a cocktail recipe that best represents the vacation spot of the day. Nice work so far on your blog! Check mine out if you need some more recipes to rank. http://www.myhappyplacebar.com/
    Fresh Made Sour Mix
    1c-Sugar
    1c-Water
    1c- Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
    1/2c- Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

Bring water and sugar to a boil on the stove till sugar is fully dissolved. Let cool fully in the fridge before adding in the lemon and lime juices. You can put in a sealed container and store in the refrigerator for a week. This is so much better than buying the premade ones.

  6. I saw your blog today through Facebook. I tried the French kiss. Very nice. Intense drink only because I am a little person aka light weight. I look forward to seeing more post from you. I often get bored with just beer or wine.
