TDD - AKA The Drinking Dead

TDD - The Drinking Dead

Who watches The Walking Dead?

The Drinking Dead is a perfect Halloween cocktail that is delicious in flavor but looks a bit scary in color to drink.

OK, so I don't watch the Walking Dead (insert gasp here).

My husband does and just about everyone else in the world seems to.....except me.

When it came to naming this cocktail, I drew a blank.

One of my daughters (who will be the pink dino ranger for Halloween......even thought she's never seen the show.....but thinks her gun is cool, therefore that's what she'll be) came into my office to help me name it, she had a few suggestions and together we came up with The Drinking Dead.

So, Thank You my Pink Dino Ranger for helping mommy name tonight's cocktail!!

The week before Halloween around here is usually insane.

It's filled with costume planning, last minute tweeks to costumes, Trick-or-Treat planning, Haunted "Garage" set up (my son and his friend did an AWESOME Haunted Garage/Driveway/Front Yard last year and they're doing it again this year), candy buying.......then doubting I have enough......then purchasing more, Halloween party planning (yeay it's on a Saturday this year!!).

Through all of that (and more that I know I'm totally forgetting), I wanted to make a couple cocktails this week to share.

I am happy to say that tonight's cocktail is #2 of the week and that makes me happy!

Tonight's cocktail........um, YUM!!

Oh this is a good one!

The color might not look fantastic, but hey it's a Halloween cocktail.......it's not supposed to.

The taste though, cha-ching winner!!

Although it doesn't look like it, you can taste the pineapple juice in this cocktail which is a nice surprise!

I really like this one and know you will too!

If you do have a bottle of black vodka at home and decide to try this cocktail, please let me know!

I'd love to hear what you think!

Here is my recipe for a TDD:

  • 1 1/2 ounces black vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Chambord
  • 2 ounces pineapple juice
In a shaker filled half way with ice, pour in all three of your ingredients.  Shake up this cocktail really well to get some foam.  Strain into a martini glass and once it's all in the glass shake the shaker up and down to get the foam to drip in.

Here's to Halloween going as smoothly as possible!!  I hope you all have a fun and safe night!!

Cheers!!

Dracula's Bite

Dracula's Bite

Black Vodka, vodka, cranberry juice, halloween, halloween cocktail, layered shot

I hope you are all getting your entries in on my UncommonGoods giveaway!  There's only a little bit of time left!

'Tis the season for BLACK VODKA!!

Yup, I busted out my Blavod bottle and decided to create a cocktail!

I already have another one in mind for tomorrow too!!

Exciting!

This year has been so jam packed with so many amazing things, that I have really not had a lot of time to give you wonderful people new and exciting cocktails......and for that I am sorry!

I just bought a brand new bottle of cranberry juice and orange juice today, which gives me two easy yet delicious ingredients to play with!  They will come in handy for sure.

Halloween and Christmas cocktails are my absolute favorite cocktails to make.

They allow me to get a little artsy with my decor in the photos, ha ha.  Given that somehow Halloween is on Saturday, I knew I needed to get my cocktail butt in gear and give you all a couple fun, yet easy cocktails to make.

This cocktail is simple.

Yes it is a layered cocktail, but I'll tell you, you almost can't screw up the layering.

These two ingredients separate pretty darn well on their own and if you make it and feel it's not layered enough........just step back and give it a couple minutes, it'll work itself out.

Now, when you see the quantity of the ingredients below you are going to think by looking at the picture that I mixed them up.  I promise you I didn't!  There are two reasons why they look backwards:

1. I have spider webs around the bottom of the glass which is covering it a little.

2. The ice is towards the top of the glass, so it makes the black vodka look huge in quantity....when it's not.  Anywho, for me, I need to drink this in big sips so that I get a good amount of the cranberry juice in each sip.  I forgot to do that with a couple and totally made that "tequila shot face".....yikes!

Here is my recipe for Dracula's Bite:

  • 3 ounces cranberry juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces black vodka

Fill a cocktail glass 3/4 with ice.  Pour in the cranberry juice.  On the back of a spoon, layer the black vodka on top and you're all set!

Here's to yet another Halloween sneaking up on me!  I hope I can pull it all together by Friday (kids parade at school).

Cheers!!

UncommonGoods Review and Giveaway

UncommonGoods Review and Giveaway

I was sent a free product to review in exchange for my honest opinion.  All views in this post are mine and I was not compensated for them in any way.

I was contacted by UncommonGoods and asked to choose something from their Gifts For Women section here to review.

The choice was tough.

There were things I had never seen before!

I narrowed it down to a few  items and finally chose the Glass Birthstone Necklace.  My birthday is in July, so that's the one I chose.  It came in a cute little box and inside the necklace was in a smaller zip lock pouch with the clasp part closed outside of the box.

GENIUS!!

That made the necklace not tangle while being shipped to me!  I like my necklace, it's something that I probably will not find anywhere else, therefore it's unique which I think is great.

They have SO MANY different items to choose from on their site.  They have them broken down into different categories which help you find what you are looking for faster.

They have a section for Gifts for Wife which has a lot of different items like necklaces, socks, books and jewelry holders which you can check out here.  Along with that they have a section which is a little different as it's called Gifts for Girlfriend.

You can see the stuff they have there by clicking here.  Now there is overlap on these items, which is to be expected, but there are some other fun things on that list as well.

One of the things that I think is pretty darn cool about Uncommon Goods is the fact that they donate $1 of every purchase to your choice of one of the not-for-profit organizations that they are partnered with.  They've been doing this for 15 years and have donated over $1 million dollars to these charities around the world!  That's pretty awesome!

A lot of companies ask YOU if YOU want to donate extra money toward organizations, but this company just does it out of their profit.

Awesome.

Here are the Not-For-Profits that they donate to: RAINN, American Forests, Women for Women International and Reach Out & Read.

Even though there are beyond plenty of items to choose from on their site, they also have a section labeled "Uncommon Knowledge", which fits in well with their name.  There you will find a lot of information that you never knew.....and never realized you never knew.  I like that kind of stuff.

I know that I will be browsing through their site as Christmas approaches.  Some people on my list are hard to buy for because basically........they already have everything.....so I thought!  This site gives me a brand new wide variety of items to choose for the people who have everything.  I'm excited!!  OK, just thinking about Christmas approaching faster then I am ready for makes me think of cold weather, beanies, hot toddies, gloves and scarves!  Which reminds me.......UncommonGoods has a page for scarves too!!  Oh happy day......time to go check them out as well.  In need of a new winter scarf?  Look no further then here!

All in all, I really like their site and the items they have to offer.  I look forward to browsing their site and receiving their catalog in the mail (that I just signed up for!).  Let me know what you find and love!

Now onto the fun part!  Who wants to win a $25 gift certificate for UncommonGoods??  How cool is that?  They are offering one lucky reader a jump start on their first order!  Best of luck to you all!!  This drawing will be open for 1 week, so get your entries in!!
