Flaming Dr. Pepper

Day 366

Flaming Dr. Pepper
3 shots out of 5

flaming dr. pepper

WOW!!!!!!!

Can you believe it?

My year long challenge has officially come to an end!

I have made, photographed, tried and blogged about THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SIX (seemed more dramatic in all caps) cocktails.  WOW, that's an accomplishment I must say.

I want to send a special Thank You out to my family who has allowed me to have my "cocktail time" every night so that I can do this.  Also to Stephanie who gave me this idea and cheered me along the entire way!  I definitely want to Thank all of you who have been with me since day 1, those of you who have found me somewhere along the way and those of you who have sent in your favorite recipes (I do still have a few more that have been sent in and will do my best to get to them soon).  Without all of you, this sure would have been a boring challenge.  Thank You!!

I gave tonight's cocktail 3 shots out of 5.

I wanted to go out on fire (kinda like Katniss and Peeta) and decided on the Flaming Dr. Pepper.

I found the recipe at Matador Network and did my best to capture it's flame on my camera.  They are right, this cocktail does more or less taste like Dr. Pepper.  It tastes more like it while it's still warm though I must say, so if you are going to make it, DRINK UP!  But please put out the flame before you do so.  This was a fun cocktail to make.....quite easy really.  I will leave you with a few sequenced photos of this cocktail to look at.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 1/2 ounces amaretto
  • 1 ounce Bacardi 151 rum
  • 1 bottle/can of beer

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Fill you shot glass first with the amaretto, then with the rum. Carefully place your shot glass in the center of a cocktail glass and fill that glass with beer just up until it hit the rim of the shot glass.
  2. Take a lighter and light the top of the liquid inside the shot glass on fire (please be careful and do not stand directly over your flame). Let your flame burn for a couple minutes and then blow it out and carefully drink it up.

I simply can not believe that this year is over.  I will not stop here, so please continue to send in your favorite cocktail recipes or just shoot me an email to say hi.

Cheers!!

San Juan

Day 77

San Juan
4 shots out of 5

Oh boy.......151-rum again.

Could get dangerous!

It's officially Wednesday and we're half way through until the weekend!

What a perfect reason to make a cocktail.....like we need one right?

On the calendar tonight, we're having a San Juan.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

This is a pretty good blended cocktail!

It's got some good ingredients mixed in it, but I have to say that when I read that I needed to put an entire shot of lime juice in it..........I got nervous.

I've learned that too much lime juice can overtake a cocktail.

Not always a good thing.

To my surprise, it adds a nice flavor and it does not take over or make you make funny faces.

I guess sometimes more lime juice is a good idea!  Super glad that it was today!  I feel like Wednesdays are our half way point and a good cocktail will help us tackle that last half of the week.

I did say that the lime juice was a good amount, don't get me wrong, I definitely taste the lime juice in this cocktail, but like I said before, it's not over powering this cocktail like it's done in cocktails of the past.

Here is the recipe for San Juan:

  • 1 1/2 shots amber rum
  • 1 shot grapefruit juice
  • 1 shot lime juice
  • 1/2 shot cream of coconut
  • 1 tsp 151-rum

In a blender add 1 cup of ice, amber rum, grapefruit juice, lime juice and cream of coconut.  Blend it up really well until all of the ice is gone.  Pour it into your glass (I used a margarita glass) and float your tsp of 151-rum on top.

Cheers to San Juan!  Whether this cocktail was created there or not, I like it!

Liquid Cocaine

Day 64

Liquid Cocaine
2.5 shots out of 5

Tonight's cocktail is dedicated to one of my very best friends, Natalie!

Today is her birthday and she has requested that I make Liquid Cocaine on her birthday.  So here's to you Natty!

I gave tonight's cocktail 2.5 shots out of 5.

Let me explain.

This is definitely a cocktail that you sip, and let it sit on your tongue for a few seconds before swallowing.

If I was to take big sips, I would give it a 2.5.

If I was to sip it the way I believe it should be sipped.....it could rate a little higher......almost to a 3.

This cocktail does call for 100-proof peppermint schnapps, which I don't have, so I just used my regular peppermint schnapps.

The reason they ask for the 100-proof is merely for potency.

I can taste each ingredient in this cocktail as I take my slow sips and let it rest on my tongue.

I think it's a definite "get your buzz on" cocktail if that's what you're after.

My husband said that it sort of tasted like mouthwash, and I agree if you take a big swig of it and don't let it sit in your mouth.  If you are going to try this one, please don't swig it.

Here is the recipe for Liquid Cocaine:

  • 1 shot 151-proof rum
  • 1 shot 100-proof peppermint schnapps (or regular like I used)
  • 1 shot Jägermeister

In your shaker, add ice, rum, peppermint schnapps and Jägermeister.  Stir up your mixture very well so that they all get blended well.  Strain your cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass.

I HUGE cheers to Natalie on her birthday!  I look forward to celebrating with you!  This liquid cocaine is for you!!

Cheers!
