Minty Spider

Day 227

Green Minty Spider
2 shots out of 5

Can you tell that I'm on a Halloween kick?

Today Stacy sent me a link to a Halloween drink......which also had a link to a whole lot of other Halloween cocktails on it.

Guess she figured it out already......as I'm sure most of you have.

I'm really getting into these Halloween cocktails, I think they're fun!

I gave tonight's cocktail 2 shots out of 5.

All I can say about this shooter is Holy Mint Batman!

It's half vodka and half creme de menthe.......but all I can taste is the mint.....with maybe a little vodka bite, you know the feeling you get in your mouth when you know alcohol is present in your cocktail, but you just can't taste it (or when you can).

Yea, that's what it was like.

I love mint chip ice cream, but this creme de menthe stuff.......yikes, it needs to be a "little" addition to a cocktail, not half of it.

Here is the recipe for a Green Spider:

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz creme de menthe

In a shaker add ice and both of the ingredients above.  Shake it up well and strain it into a shot glass.  I wetting the rim of mine with water and swirled it in green sprinkles to make it look neat. It surely didn't help the taste though.

Here's to a not so good Green Spider.  Should have been called Minty Spider, that would have made more sense.  As a matter of fact I'm going to change the name of it right now!

Cheers!!

Mint Chip

Day 97

Mint Chip
2.5 shots out of 5

"If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again".  -William Edward Hickson

I am going to have to give this cocktail a new formula and try it again.  I do have faith that I can make something that pleases my tastes a bit more.  I think the problem with this recipe that I found is that this Mint Chip tastes too overwhelmingly minty.

Imagine my disappointment.......Mint Chip ice cream is one of my 2 most absolute favorite flavors EVER!!

I saw the recipe for this cocktail on a PDF emailed to me from Sandi (Thank You again).

This PDF is from Pinnacle Vodka and has a lot of recipes on it (Sandi, the more I look at it, the more I'm realizing that the last third of the PDF is sort of a repeat of the previous cocktails, just down sized and renamed, haha).

I sure do wish I liked this cocktail a LOT more then I do.

Side note, if you'd like me to email you the PDF,  shoot me an email and I'll send it on over.  Cocktailady@gmail.com

I gave tonight's cocktail 2.5 shots out of 5.

Not thrilled about it, I must say.

The mint flavor takes over........in a way that it shouldn't in a cocktail.

It kind of reminded me of a mouthful of mouth wash or something......yuck.

It was worth a try though.  If you look at my photo......ok......so I didn't have chocolate syrup, so I made a wet swirly inside the glass and sprinkled chocolate powder on it (TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE LET IT HARDEN.......PROBABLY IN THE FREEZER FOR A WHILE FIRST) and did the same on the rim.

My not so bright idea ended up making it mix into the cocktail when I poured it in, making the cocktail look a "little" darker then what it should look like.

If you look at the green color near the whipped cream on top, you'll get a better idea of it's color.

Here is the recipe for Mint Chip:

  • 2 shots whipped cream vodka
  • 1 shot creme de cacao
  • 1 shot creme de menthe
  • chocolate syrup (or hardened powder)
  • whipped cream

In a shaker add ice, vodka, creme de cacao and creme de menthe.  Shake it up real good.  In a martini glass, make your own special designs with the chocolate syrup (or powder) and strain your cocktail inside.  Top with a little bit of whipped cream.

Sandi, I'll definitely be trying more on that list!  Thank You again for sending it!!

Cheers!!
