Independent Hemorrhage

One day until The 4th of July.

The year is more then half over and we are in my favorite season of the year!

With that in mind I wanted to give you another fun patriotic cocktail.  The Independent Hemorrhage is such a unique fun shot to have with friends on the 4th.

Tell me THAT doesn't look cool!

These are always fun shots to make when you can get the colors to drip through the Baileys into the peach schnapps.

This shot is easy to make too!

Pour in the peach schnapps.

Layer the Baileys on top.

Drip some grenadine.

Then some blueberry schnapps.

Until you get the look you want.

That's it.

Simple right?

Poisoned Apple

black vodka, halloween, black vodka, poisoned apple shot

Only 3 days until Halloween!

How fun!

I can hear the buzz around the school yard, everyone is getting so excited!

I had planned on making a few more cocktails before Halloween this year, but to no surprise, I got sick a week ago and an still not feeling 100%.

Blah!

I have too many things going on this weekend to be sick, so it's time to have a shot of this here Poisoned Apple and get on with my weekend!

'Tis the season of black vodka!

I love this stuff.

I love that it's black, I think that's so cool.

I decided to go with a layered shot today and  since green is one of the colors of Halloween, what better liqueur to use but sour apple pucker!

This time when I rimmed my shot glass I used simple syrup.

Although I have a huge "dislike" for sprinkles or anything like them......I DO think they look really cool rimmed on a cocktail glass or shot glass (don' tell my friends or family I said this...I'll never hear the end of it............ever).

I saw these black and an orange shiny sprinkle jars at Target not too long ago and decided to get them for upcoming drinks.

Layering a cocktail can be tricky at times for sure......but sometimes it's REALLY easy.

Some alcohol (such as the sour apple pucker) has enough sugar in it to make it more dense.  This is allow lighter alcohols to more or less float on top.

With something like this shot you can just pour in the sour apple pucker and then slowly towards the side of the glass pour in the black vodka.

Sure some might go below the pucker for a moment, but it will rise up and create that layer right after that.

This combo of sour apple pucker and vodka is pretty darn good.  Layered shots sometimes scare me, especially when the hard alcohol is on the top of the shot.

As long as you take it in one big sip (as you're supposed to take shots), you'll be fine!

If you notice the black sprinkles started to slide down the shot glass inside and created a brownish streak inside the shot.  I think that's kind of cool!  It reminds me of my Happy Birthday Tini I made a while back.  I loved the effect the all of the different colored sprinkles made on the inside of that glass.

Here is my recipe for a Poisoned Apple:

Coffee and Tres Leches

Coffee and Tres Leches

tres leches cocktail shot, tres leches liqueur, kahlua, coffee liqueur, layered shot

I am soooo excited today!!

Today, thanks to all of you out there, I have reached 1000 followers on my Pinterest page!!

You are all amazing and I Thank You from the bottom of my heart!

Guess what........my Facebook page is not too far behind with 960 Likes!!  Like I said, you all totally rock!!  OH OH and I created an awesome shirt and am selling them on Teespring, here's a link to check it out.  They're only available for 3 more days, so be sure to order them today!

Since I'm excited about it and it's been a loooong week (yes I know it's not over yet), I wanted to create something new for you all to try.

Trust me, you'll WANT to try this!!

I bought a bottle of Tres Leches liqueur a while back and besides having people sample it when they come over, I haven't made a cocktail with it.  I wanted to change that so I thought coffee sounded good with Tres Leches AND I WAS RIGHT!!

This is soo delicious!

If you have a bottle of each of these two simple ingredients, you will need to try this layered shooter.

This is a good start to my evening.

After I finish cooking dinner and eating with the family, my husband and I are headed out to have a beer.......or two at our favorite local Irish Pub to celebrate my 1000 Pinterest followers.  Thanks to you all, I get to have a couple beers!

If you have tried Tres Leches liqueur before and have some awesome cocktail recipes for me to try, I would love to hear about them!  Email me at cocktailady@gmail.com or you can use the contact form on the left hand side of this page!

    Cinnamon Apple

    Cinnamon Apple

cinnamon apple cocktail shot, sour apple pucker, fireball whisky, cinnamon whisky

Apparently July happened and now it's........August?

    Really??

    How exactly did that happen??

This year our family has been busy little bees.  We have a wedding and a vow renewal both coming up in August both ceremonies are 6 days apart from each other.

Guess what, we're in them both too!

    How exciting is that??

The last couple months have been filled with preparing and partying as we get ready for both ceremonies.  Can't beat that!

This school year that is starting up will mark the first time in the history of The Cocktail Lady that I will have all 4 kids in school......say what?!

Oh it's true and oh so wonderful!

Our oldest will start his Junior year of high school in a week, second oldest just received his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and will be starting middle school!

Our girls will start the 1st grade and Transitional Kindergarten.  WOW.....how did that happen?

Speaking of school, I thought I'd make a school-like shooter to help you all get your kids back to school and start your school year routine again.

This shooter has a kick and a heat to it.

You get the sour apple taste from the pucker, but I'll tell you, that Fireball on top......insert the kick here!

These two layer perfectly on top of each other which is fun.

When drinking this shooter you absolutely have to shoot the entire thing, otherwise you'll get a mouthful of Fireball and a little pucker.

Here is a photo of the end result:

cinnamon apple cocktail shot, sour apple pucker, fireball whisky, cinnamon whisky, fall cocktail, autumn cocktail, thanksgiving cocktail

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

cinnamon apple cocktail shot, sour apple pucker, fireball whisky, cinnamon whisky, fall cocktail, autumn cocktail, thanksgiving cocktail

Here is my recipe for a Cinnamon Apple:

    • 3/4 ounce sour apple pucker
    • 3/4 ounce Fireball Whisky

In a shot glass pour in the apple pucker.  Holding a spoon upside down and having it touch the inside of the shot glass right above the pucker, slowly pour the Fireball down the back of the spoon to give your shooter that layered effect.

Here's to another half of a year flying by!  Before we know it these kids will be in school, then it will be Halloween, Thanksgiving.....and so on.

    Cheers!!

    Ghostly Uprising

This Ghostly Uprising shooter is perfect for Halloween.  It reminds me of the Brain Hemorrhage I made and has the same kind of consistency.  It's really a fun shooter to drink!

I am starting to feel the pressure of the holidays coming on already.

We only have 6 days left of September and then it is a countdown.....oh wait.....it's already been...until Halloween.

Over the weekend our oldest daughter and I went shopping for her witch's costume at our local Halloween store.  Now she has known that she wants to be a witch for Halloween since July, so that part was easy.

There were 4 different costumes for her to choose from and she decided on this one.  The only difference in the one pictured and the one she got was that the purple parts are not velvety on hers.  She chose a broom and necklace and I bought a variety of SUPER sparkly eye shadows for her, her little sister and I to use and we were set!

    Phewph.......glad that's over.

Now I will need to figure out decorations and a menu for our party.

I have a fun Halloween Treats board on Pinterest with some ideas I've pinned.  I am always looking for more, so if you are not following me on Pinterest please do so and let me know you did so that I can follow you back.  Let's share some fun Halloween ideas, whether it's food, decorating or just something fun!

Today I created an interesting shooter.

This one tasted pretty good.......except for me trying to swallow down that HUGE hunk of Irish Cream you see in the picture.

After I made it my husband and I decided that we want to try to (and I say "try to" b/c we come up with great ideas.....and then......we have 4 kids.........and well......look we're here and we showed up and we're all dressed........yeay, big accomplishment!!) make a line of these (or something similar) on the bar and as people show up on Halloween, make them shoot one.  Fingers crossed we actually have time to do it.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Halloween cocktail, peach schnapps, Baileys vanilla cinnamon, Irish Cream liqueur, black vodka

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for my Ghostly Uprising:

    • 1 ounce peach schnapps
    • 1 ounce Irish Cream vanilla cinnamon
    • 1/2 ounce black vodka
    • 1/4-1/2 ounce grenadine

In a shot glass, pour in the peach schnapps.  Next layer the Irish Cream on top.  Then layer the black vodka on top of that.  Now with a straw, drip the grenadine on top until the Irish Cream starts to lower into the peach schnapps.

Here's to the holidays coming whether we are ready or not!

    Cheers!!

    Rotten Orange

Here is a fun layered shot that you can serve your Halloween guests.  I just think that black vodka makes these Halloween cocktails look amazing!

I'm not sure about all of you, but this house is TOTALLY getting into the Halloween spirit.

Our oldest daughter has known that she wants to be a witch for Halloween since July and our youngest daughter just got a mermaid costume at Costco the other day.

One costume down, hopefully we can borrow a witch costume and then we just need the boys to decide if they are going to dress up this year or not.

My husband and boys want to make a little "Haunted House" this year for the kids to walk through to get their candy on Halloween night.  They say it will be a work in progress where they add a little to it every year.

Guess that means that the girls and I will hit the street going door to door for treats.

If you missed it.....I BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF BLACK VODKA!!

Last year I saw bottles of black vodka at our local BevMo and never bought one.

This year I was not going to make that mistake!

I am excited to make some cocktails for you all with my black vodka.

I think they layered ones look pretty cool.  This shooter made me do they squinchy face dance because I really tasted the vodka.....and if you didn't know, I'm not big on taking a straight shot of something.........unless it's Fireball......and it's chilled, then it's not as bad.

Here is a photo of the end result:

black vodka, orange juice, layered shot, halloween cocktail

Here is my recipe for a Rotten Orange:

    • 1 ounce black vodka
    • 1 ounce orange juice

I rimmed a shot glass with orange sprinkles to make it more festive.  In a shot glass pour in the orange juice.  Next layer the black vodka on top and you are done!

Here is to my very first Halloween cocktail of the season!  More to come......

    Cheers!!

    Jellyfish (shooter)

    Is this week over yet?

    Is it Friday yet?

Wait........I'm not ready for the weekend yet, so it can't be here already....I just REALLY need this week to be over already.  Needless to say these past 3 days have been....crazy.

Last Friday our oldest took his test at the DMV to get his permit.

    Passed!!

Yesterday he had his first official "behind the wheel" instruction.  Now that his first 2 hours are done, he can now drive with a licensed driver 35 or older!

So today....he and I took our first drive.

He "very willingly" drove me to Target, he did great!  We are slowly working towards those 50 hours of driving he and I (or my husband, my folks, his aunts/uncles) have to complete, yeay!!

I wanted to make a fun shooter today so I searched online.

I found the same recipe for a Jellyfish shooter over and over again, so I thought I'd give it a try.

It's a fun shooter to make and a nice quick one to drink.  I have made one similar in the past, Brain Hemorrhage, which was really good.

This one was easier to get down because there wasn't as much of the "hanging baileys" in the middle as there was in the Brain Hemorrhage.  All in all it was a pretty yummy shooter.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Jellyfish:

    • 1/2 ounce white creme de cacao
    • 1/2 ounce amaretto
    • 1/2 ounce Irish Cream liqueur
    • 4 drops grenadine

In a shot glass, pour in the first two ingredients.  Next layer the Irish Cream on top of them.  With a straw drip 4 drops of grenadine in the middle.

    Here's to another fun shooter!

    Cheers!!
