ChocolatRouge

On Monday I was invited to a Chocolate Party in a near by city.

I have never been to a chocolate party before.......probably because I am not a huge chocolate fan.

Where most people like to have an occasional chocolate bar, chocolate candy, chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream, I opt out.  I am not really a dessert person either (I can hear your gasps from here).

I DO enjoy ice cream.....although my body these days would not agree with me.

Although I am not a big candy eater, you put a bag of Reese's Pieces in front of me and It's On!

Back to the Chocolate Party story.

We are asked to bring a bottle of wine if we would like to.

I do not want to come empty handed so I browse through the wine isles at Safeway, I am NOT a wine connoisseur, so I really have no idea what I am looking at or for.

All I know is that I like red wine.

As I am walking up and down the isles I think I see the work Chocolate?

I look again and this is what I find:

My first thought was "Oh no......that's weird".

Then I stood there for a moment (OK, maybe it was longer then a moment.....I was actually kid-free so this may have gone on for some time I am really not sure) and thought "Well I'm going to a "Chocolate Party" and they did say to bring "wine".....shoot what the heck.

Worst case?

A room full of strangers thinks I am the LAMEST Cocktail Lady ever who brings the WORST tasting wine imaginable to parties.

I can hang with that.

We get to the party.

Cork the wine.

Take a sniff.......WOW that smells pretty darn good!

OK here goes.

Pour.

Swish (only because I've seen people do this and it looks like the right thing to do when you have a glass of wine).

Taste, HOLY MOLY this stuff is DE-licious!!  It's so delicious that some of the guests at the party come over to ask "Who brought THIS wine?" and "Where did you get it?"  It was an utter hit!

This wine tastes like a raspberry truffle.

It's smooth and quite yummy.

Your mouth goes through a few different flavors during the entire "sipping" process of each and every sip.  I went back and bought more yesterday as we had a couple friends and my Mother-in-law and nieces and nephew over for dinner.

I wanted them all (the 21 and over's that is) to try it.

Got my Mother-in-law hooked and promising that she was going to go buy some for herself.

Here is what a glass of it looks like:

Oh yes it is dark, but don't let that scare you!

I also saw another version of the chocolate wine right next to it by the same makers.  This one was also red wine and chocolate, but it looked like chocolate milk and it requires you to chill it before serving.

I may get the courage to try that one as well and if I do, I will report back to you all on what I thought about it.

I hope you are all enjoying the last couple hours of the Friday workday.

If you are in Safeway or another store that has this wine and you are curious about it, buy it!

Try it and then let me know what you think about it.  I gave it 5 shots out of 5.

Cheers to the weekend!!

  1. I don't know if this is the same brand that I tasted at my favorite liquor store, but I just couldn't get into it. Of course, it may have been my preconceived notions about the propriety of combining chocolate with red wine. I really love chocolate, and I really love dry red wines, but together? Eh. :)

    1. This wine is a little on the sweeter side, so if you like a drier red wine, then you may not enjoy this one. They have another one which looks like chocolate milk through the bottle. That one is to be chilled before drinking. I keep telling myself that I will buy a bottle to try it, and then when I get to the store I chicken out b/c it looks like chocolate milk. Maybe one day.......

  2. I've seen that one. I don't blame you for chickening out :)

  3. I've tried ChocoVine which is chocolate and wine, and it is a milk chocolate color, but this seems to be a different brand. I'll have to see if we have it in our stores. (ChocoVine is a bit blah at room temperature, but not bad if chilled. Not great, mind you, but it's under $5/bottle so how much can one ask of it?)

  4. You missed out! Very hard to find bottles. If you like something sweet with a hint of Chocolate then this is a great wine. I would pair it with a cheesecake. Chocolate cake is to overbearing. Very sweet dessert wine that goes down well right before bed. There is a sweet red, & a dark chocolate red. If you like liqueur's and red wines you will love a glass or two. ChocoVine and Chocolate Shop have to be the worst pairing combinations I have ever experienced in my life! Don't waste your time!
