Paloma

cinco de mayo, tequila, paloma, cocktail, grapefruit juice

This is THE cocktail that you will want to drink
THIS Cinco De Mayo!!

cinco de mayo, tequila, paloma, cocktail

Happy Cinco De Mayo!!

What better way to celebrate such a wonderful day than with an ice cold Paloma!

Until a few months ago I had never heard of a Paloma.

<Gasp, I know>

But I hadn't!

I was asked to create a Paloma recipe for the magazine I write for, so I googled it and started creating a recipe to my likings.

Um......DELICIOUS!

This is my husband and mines new favorite cocktail!  When we're up at the lake house we seem to drink it ALL the time!

Speaking of the lake.....where we are in California we need rain to fill up our lakes.

Like REALLY BAD!

We drive by another lake on our way up to our lake house and there are now islands and land where there used to be a LOT of feet of water.

It's so sad.  This summer will not be a bit boating summer for sure unless we get A TON of rain.

Which I don't see happening.  Which is a bummer.  So extra pool time is how we will be spending our summer time up at the lake this year.  Fingers crossed that this winter brings all of the rain that we need!

OK, back to the cocktail!

In celebration of Cinco De Mayo, I decided to share my recipe with you all so that you too can enjoy the deliciousness that is, The Paloma!

This is such a simple cocktail to make.  First add your tequila.

Next add the grapefruit juice.

Add in the lime juice (I used frozen lime juice made from a neighbors lime tree, yum).

Onto the simple syrup.

And finally the grapefruit soda.

Give it a good stir to mix everything together well and enjoy!

Onto the recipe!!

Yield: 1

Svelte 72

Want to enjoy a cocktail with all of the taste, but none of the sugar or carbs?

Well you're welcome because I just created one!

Want to know the best part about this cocktail?

It's ONLY 72 calories!

That's right.

Only 72!

OK, so truth be told.  I'm not getting any younger.  Shocker right?

But seriously, when did I EVER think I'd be excited about a cocktail having no carbs and no sugar?

Um never?

Well the day is upon me.  The day where I have to think about "How many calories are in this?" "How many carbs can I eat or drink today?" "How much sugar is in there?"

Honestly I hate having to count those things.  I think it's lame.  Necessary.......but lame.

With all of that in mind.  I present to you a brand new cocktail I just created.  It's called Svelte 72 and it moves the "thinking" out of the way so that you can just enjoy a nice cocktail.

This cocktail only has 4 ingredients and is easy to make.

First thing's first.  You'll need to muddle the mint leaves.

Next, fill the glass with ice and pour in the vodka.

Add the diet ginger ale.

Next is the lime juice.  Stir and enjoy!

2 New Non-Minty Flavored Mules

I have 2 more recipes using the Smirnoff Zero Sugar flavored vodkas to add to your collection!

Last time I made cocktails using these two flavored vodkas and we added club soda.

They were pretty good.

These two I am sharing with you today are even BETTER!

I decided to make a couple mule cocktails (minus the mint....cause I totally forgot to pick up mint leaves at the store) with these flavored vodkas to see how they would taste.

First up is the Strawberry Rose Mule.

YES I created that awesome strawberry rose garnish!  It was actually easier then I thought it would be too.

Then I jumped right in and made a Cucumber Lime Mule as well.

Both were fun and easy to do.

First you add in the vodka.

Followed by the ginger beer.

Add in the lime juice and stir.

There you have it.  2 brand new cocktails!

I definitely like these vodkas better in these recipes then I did with the 2 recipes with club soda.

I hope you are enjoying this Labor Day Weekend!

2 New Zero Sugar Vodka Soda Recipes

I was sent a bottle each of Smirnoff Zero Sugar Infusions Strawberry & Rose vodka as well as their Cucumber & Lime vodka to try.  I was not required to do a post in return.  These are my honest opinions of what I thought of them.

Flavored vodka.

Way back when we started drinking there was only vodka.

Then came flavored vodka, which was fun for a while.

Quite a few years later I decided that I liked plain old vodka again.  No flavors, just plain.

Well times have changed around here once again.

I am enjoying the flavored vodkas more so now.  I think maybe it has to do with the fact that they are getting pretty creative with their flavors lately.

No I'm not talking about raspberry vodka, marshmallow vodka or cake vodka.

I'm talking about the way they mix different flavors together to create something new and refreshing.

Like these for instance these:

Now before I was sent these bottles to sample a friend of mine had me try Ketel One Botanical Peach & Orange Blossom.

I FELL IN LOOOOOVE with it!

I also tried their grapefruit & rose vodka.......it was good, but the rose flavor was a bit too strong for me.  I'm not a floral smell kind of person......so to drink it......ahhhh, not for me.

When I received these bottles I was hoping that when I tried the strawberry & rose flavor that I wouldn't taste the rose as much as I did with the Ketel One.

I didn't!  I definitely tasted the strawberry more then the rose and in by book that's EXACTLY what I wanted!

When I made the Strawberry Rose & Soda cocktail I was pleasantly surprised with how refreshing the strawberry tasted and how I really couldn't taste the rose flavor as much.  Very nice!

Now let's talk Cucumber & Lime.

I'm not a cucumber water girl.  Well.....I'm not a flavored water girl period.
I know there are those fancy Fruit Infused Water Pitchers as well as those Fruit Infused Water Bottles....I just like my water with ice.

Anyways where I was going with that was, when I think of fancy flavored water I think of cucumber water.

Looking at that bottle, that's what was in my head.  Cucumber water.

So I sucked it up and made myself a Cucumber Lime & Soda cocktail as well:

Once again.

I was pleasantly surprised.  This was not a bad cocktail, EVEN with the cucumber flavor!

Now I haven't even touched yet on what is written on the front of each of these bottles.

ZERO SUGAR.

Yup, you saw that right, zero.

OK, the other thing I was thinking (besides cucumber water) was, how are they going to make these taste good and have zero sugar in them?

Right right, but a lot of vodka's have no sugar in them.

True.

But what I'm seeing is that somehow this vodka with it's zero sugar claim has somehow brought the calorie count down as well.

A regular bottle of Smirnoff vodka has more calories then these bottles.  Interesting, right?

OK, I know what you're going to say.

Isn't that how many calories is in the regular Smirnoff vodka?

Nope!  That amount is for less vodka.  Their serving size is 1.5 ounces.  Mine is 2 ounces!

There you go!  MORE alcohol.  LESS calories.  It's a win-win!

OK, so you're probably ready for me to share the "How To" part of this post?  Yup, I knew it!

These two cocktails are so super easy to make.

Two simple ingredients.  Can't get better then that.

First you add the vodka.

Next you add the club soda.

Stir and garnish.

Simple and easy and you get to enjoy these refreshing cocktails.

I have to say, I am a fan of the Smirnoff Zero Sugar vodkas!  I know there is one more zero sugar flavored vodka that I have not yet tried, but am hoping to.  That one is Watermelon & Mint and I've heard it's pretty delicious!
