Berry Patriotic

I was sent a bottle of Smirnoff Red, White & Berry to try.  I was not paid for this post.  I am here to tell you what I think about it and the awesome cocktail I made with it.  All views and opinions are mine.

Ready or not, Memorial Day weekend is coming full steam ahead!

But don't worry!  I made a brand new cocktail in celebration!  I call it Berry Patriotic!

I was contacted and asked if I would like to have a bottle of Smirnoff's Red, White & Berry vodka to make some cocktails with.  Um.  Heck yes I would LOVE a bottle!

Berry Patriotic is made with Smirnoff Red, White & Berry vodka. Perfect cocktail for any patriotic celebration!

Not only did they send me a bottle of vodka, they also sent me two bottles of their Red, White & Berry Smirnoff Ice!  WIN!!

Let's start with the vodka.

OH MY!!

When you open up that bottle does it ever smell DELICIOUS!!!!

The berry aroma is great!  I couldn't wait to create a cocktail with it.

So.......I went a little overboard and.......well sort of created 3 cocktails in one.

They had sent me some recipes that others had created and one of them was layered, so I knew I wanted to create my very own layered cocktail with this bottle.

I wrote down what I thought would work and started blending each layer AS QUICKLY AS  I POSSIBLE COULD!

Yes, I totally could have stuck my glasses in the freezer between layers, but honestly I had all of my ingredients out and it really doesn't take much time to whip up the next layer so I decided to go for it.

It worked...until it was time to take a million photos of these fantastic cocktails......on a warm day......out in the sun.

Needless to say they started to melt a little, but that took NOTHING away from their taste or awesome layering!

I have got to say this cocktail is REALLY good!

I haven't had a sweet cocktail in quite some time and this one right here.......WOW!

Don't you just want to dive in?

OK, maybe it's just me?

Maybe it is.......

Anyways, what are your plans for the weekend?  Any holiday celebrations you are throwing or attending?

We have a party this weekend which should be a great time!  You can't beat family, friends, warm weather, food and of course cocktails!!

Now onto the Smirnoff Ice bottles they sent me!

I will admit, it's been years since I've had a Smirnoff Ice.  Actually the last time I had one, they only came in their original flavor.  Gasp.  I know.  Horrible.

So........these smell........delicious too!  Oh that berry smell is great.

But how do they taste?

FREAKING AMAZING!  I need to see if I can find these at the store because these are absolutely necessary for this weekend!  Absolutely!  PLUS, they're blue!  I mean what could be better?

Did you notice their cap?  Little stars!!  How adorable is that?

OK, so let's get you that 3 in 1 recipe for the Berry Patriotic!

American Watermelon Daiquiri

American Watermelon Daiquiri

Patriotic, American, Cocktail

So many exciting things happening around here!

This weekend we are having a Family Reunion which I am super excited about.  My grandma (yes the one who turned 100, you can see her pic on my Chocolate Whipped Cherry post) is one of 9.

All remaining 5 will be in attendance at this reunion, which I think is awesome!

Our family is all over the U.S.A., so the cousins take turns putting the whole thing together which is a great way to see a lot of different states.

My grandma will be the oldest one there and I know a couple of my cousins have recently had little ones, so the youngest (if I am getting this right) will only be a few months old.

What an amazing range of ages, right?!  We get together and do this once every 3 years, so it will be an absolute BLAST hanging out with the whole family this weekend.

I've been seeing Patriotic stuff ALL OVER Pinterest lately, which is also very exciting!

I love, love, love the 4th of July!

I have been pinning some fun stuff if you want to check it out.  I have my "My Patriotic Cocktail & Shooters" board, my "Patriotic Yummies" board as well as my "Patriotic Crafts" board.  They all have some AWESOME stuff in them and I can guarantee you that I will be pinning more!

Watermelon always reminds me of summertime.

Although I do not like to eat watermelon, I DO like this watermelon puree I recently purchased by Finest Call.  Pretty darn delicious if you ask me!

It was suuuuper fun to pull out the blender today to whip this cocktail up.  It's been a long time since I last had make a blended cocktail, I almost forgot how much fun it was.  Oh and if you're wondering, tonight's cocktail is "Husband Approved"!

Here is my recipe for an American Watermelon Daiquiri:

Sour Grapefruit Margarita

Sour Grapefruit Margarita

Tomorrow being National Margarita Day gives us all a great excuse (like we need one) to try a new kind of margarita!

I wanted to post this yesterday, but unfortunately the stomach bug that our youngest got, passed to her sister and then to me had me out of commission for the past few days.

I am happy to say that I do feel like I am alive again and ready for a margarita!

A couple years ago for National Margarita Day two of our very good friends came over with their margarita machine and we started trying a couple different flavored margaritas.  One thing led to another......we had a few margaritas.......and other cocktails that I can't remember right now and decided that the BEST thing in the world to do was to create a rap song for our friends upcoming birthday.........accompanied with a music video.

Oh yea, I said it........a music video.

It ended up being a pretty good idea, b/c they ended up coming back over the next weekend and my husband recorded the song and he mashed it all together with background music (I don't have technical terms, b/c that's totally his thing) and beats and POOF, we had a soundtrack.

Anyways........onto today's cocktail.

I wanted to create a margarita with Elderflower liqueur and grapefruit juice.

I found a couple recipes online, combined them with one of mine and added more stuff to it.

End result......sour.

Not as sour as my first attempt (before I started adding stuff to it), but still kind of sour.  It's not bad, I'm totally drinking this margarita as I type, just sour.

What will you be drinking on National Margarita Day?  Any favorite flavors?  Prefer the classic margarita?  I'd love to hear from you!

Tomorrow being the BIG DAY, I present you with 18 different margarita's to choose from!

Here is a photo of the end result:

  • 1/2 ounce triple sec
  • 1/2 cup ice

I hope you all have a fantastic holiday (yes it's totally a holiday)!  With all of these choices, I know I will!!

Rainbow Banana

Labor Day weekend is here!

How exciting.

This weekend for us is baseball practice (surprising, I know) and a local Festival.

We usually spend this weekend up at the lake with my folks, but I think those days may have passed for now.

Tonight I am going to do a short but sweet post.

I need to do it quickly because our 9 year old's 4th grade teacher will be posted at 5:00 at the school and he needs to know who his teacher is soooo badly.

Every 3-5 minutes he asks what time it is, so if we do not leave AT 5:00 I think I will be in lots and lots of trouble.

I wanted to make a blended cocktail today because it's incredibly hot out today.

I initially made this cocktail out of 3 ingredients and it was more in the milkshake form.  Then I decided to add sprite to make it more liquidier.

I personally liked the flavor of the milkshakier one best therefore you all get 2 recipes tonight!  My ratings are below for each cocktail.

Above is an average of the two.

Here is a photo of the end result (thinner version):

rainbow banana cocktail, coconut rum, malibu rum, banana liqueur, rainbow sherbet, sprite, lemon-lime soda

Here is a photo of the ingredients (thinner version):

rainbow banana cocktail, coconut rum, malibu rum, banana liqueur, rainbow sherbet, sprite, lemon-lime soda

Here is my recipe for a Rainbow Banana (thicker version):
(This version gets 5 shots out of 5)

  • 2 ounces coconut rum
  • 1 ounce banana liqueur
  • 1 cup rainbow sherbet
Here is my recipe for a Rainbow Banana (thinner version):
(This version gets 3 shots out of 5)

  • 2 1/2 ounces coconut rum
  • 2 ounces banana liqueur
  • 1 cup rainbow sherbet
  • 1 1/2 ounces sprite
Either way you decide to make it you will use a blender.  Basically all you need to do is put all of the ingredients in the blender and blend them up until completely mixed.  It's just that easy!

Happy Labor Day weekend to all!

Cheers!!

Memorial Milkshake

Memorial Milkshake
4 shots out of 5

Perfect milkshake cocktail for Memorial Day with it's red, white and blue colors!

This is the perfect milkshake for you to sit back and enjoy on Memorial Day weekend!  It has a perfect blend of ice cream and alcohol so that you will truly enjoy it.

Holy......cr.......moly!  This year is getting away from me.

I feel like I have a mountain of things to do and not enough time in the day to do them (which I know is how a lot of you feel).

Our oldest is finishing up his spring soccer season season this weekend with a tournament (that will be one sport down, one to go), which I am excited about because that means that summer is one step closer.

Next he has his baseball season to finish up which will be done by mid June......well except for the tournament in July.......plus the other tournaments I'm sure he'll be playing over the summer.

Point is, the more things I get to check off of my list, the closer summer gets.

Our kids have three weeks of school left, including 8th grade field trips  picnics, graduation ceremonies and dances, then we'll be free to enjoy summer to it's fullest!

I found a cute checklist on Life As Mom for the kids to fill out with all of the fun stuff they want to do this summer.  Fingers crossed that we are able to get most of it done.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

I was on the hunt for a Memorial Day cocktail and did find a few, but then looked outside and saw the sun (yes I saw the wind too, but I can't feel that from inside) and decided to try my hand at a self invented milkshake.

I must say I did pretty good too.  The cherry vodka definitely leaves it mark in the cocktails I've made it with so far (Cherry Crepe, Easter Basket and Surely Not Temple), meaning that I can definitely taste the cherry flavor.

Perfect milkshake cocktail for Memorial Day with it's red, white and blue colors!

In my head this milkshake was going to be perfectly layered with blue on the bottom, white in the middle and red on top.

Then I took my first shot at layering the white on top of the blue and came to the realization that I should have made this milkshake a LOT thicker.

Oh well, it still tastes good!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is my recipe for a Memorial Milkshake:

  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 ounce cherry vodka
  • 1 ounce marshmallow vodka
  • 1 ounce milk
  • 1/2 ounce blue curacao
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine

First put the ice cream, milk and both vodkas in your blender and blend them up just enough to give them a quick mixing.

Pour everything into a big extra cup.

Pour 3 ounces of your original mixture back into the blender and add the blue curacao.  Give it a quick blend and pour it into the bottom of your milkshake glass.

Try your best at layering 3 ounces of your original mixture on top of your blue bottom layer of your milkshake glass.

Pour your remaining 3 ounces (the rest) of your original mixture back into your blender and add the grenadine.  Give it a quick blend and layer that on top of your white layer in your milkshake glass.

If your mixtures aren't as thick as I had initially imagined mine being it's OK.  Just use the process of layering (back of a spoon) each mixture on top of the other and it will end up like mine.

Here's to Memorial Day weekend!  I hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Cheers!
