Firecracker Spritzer

Here we are.

Somehow.....someway.....it's July.

Have I got a fun layered 4th of July cocktail for you!

I call it, Firecracker Spritzer.

I knew I wanted to create a layered cocktail for you all for the 4th.....partly because I THINK THEY'RE SUUUPER FUN TO MAKE.  Partly because I enjoy making holiday cocktails.....and honestly partly because I haven't made a new cocktail in a while.

The Firecracker Spritzer is a very easy to make cocktail.  I promise.

The layering isn't that hard, mostly because grenadine is pretty much heavy enough to sink to the bottom of any cocktail.

Isn't it a pretty cocktail?!?!

I loooove the layered effect.

First things first.  Grenadine.

Next ice.

Followed by lemon-lime soda.

Lastly the blue layer.

See, I told you it wasn't hard!

Look how pretty it looks!!

Surely Not Temple

Surely Not Temple
5 shots out of 5

Did you enjoy a Shirley Temple as a child?

Surely Not Temple is that, but with a kick........an alcohol kick that is!

Surely Not Temple adds cherry vodka to the classic Shirley Temple.

One of the most annoying things for me about Pinterest (well it's not Pinterest's fault), is when I see something amazing that I want to know more about......like tonight's cocktail.......and I click on it and I am sent to someone's Flickr account, or a page that no longer exists.

Today's cocktail was like that, I was excited about making it and so I clicked on it and it led me nowhere.

Well at least they listed the ingredients (not quantities) on the pin, therefore I made my own and renamed it.

I gave today's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

OK, this cocktail I would totally drink at a social gathering.

This is one of those cocktails that I am excited enough about that I would make one for all to try at the next party......yea it's that good.

I totally used to order Shirley Temples when I went out to dinner with my parents as a kid.

As some of you know, I would inform the waitress that I did NOT want a cherry in mine, but an olive.....or three.

This cocktail has a great cherry flavor between the vodka and grenadine and mixed with the sprite, it's a winner in my book!

Red, White & Hpnotiq Blue Martini

Day 140

Red, White & Hpnotiq Blue Martini
4.5 shots out of 5

patriotic cocktail, 4th of july, hpnotiq

**This posts pictures have been updated & I wanted to share this amazing recipe with you all again too!**

Happy Fourth of July!

A day to celebrate our Independence and wear, eat and drink Red, White & Blue!

I have to say that I was excited when I found this cocktail online at the barnonedrinks website!

I haven't had Hpnotiq is quite a few years and was excited to try it again.

I was given a bottle by one of my husbands Best Men at our wedding and have liked it ever since.......but that was some years ago.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4.5 shots out of 5.

This is a very yummy cocktail!  The citrus vodka blends very well with the Hpnotiq and sprite to give it a yummy citrusey flavor that goes down pretty smooth.

This is a perfect way to celebrate the 4th surrounded by family, friends and cocktails!

I hope you find a patriotic cocktail in color or name......or just a cocktail to celebrate our national holiday with today!

Remembrance

Where were you 13 years ago today?

Do you remember?

I do.

I was on my way to work, I had just dropped off our oldest (then 2 1/2 years old) at his daycare.  I hopped back into the car, turned on the radio and my heart stopped there for a second.

What is this?

Is this a joke?

Are the radio announcers pulling one over on me?

It took me a couple minutes to realize what had happened.  I got to work and the TV's were on.  Things were a lot quieter then they usually were around the shop.

Then I saw the videos, oh my goodness......I heard about it on the radio, but until I actually saw it on the TV.....it just became real.

Our nation has done a lot of healing since then, yet there is much more to do.  My heart goes out to all of the families who have lost loved ones on this day 13 years ago.

To all of those who are still with us, yet were traumatized by this horrific event.  To all of those who's lives will never be the same.  My heart goes out to you all, America.

In honor of "remembering" this day 13 years ago, I wanted to create a cocktail to honor our great nation.  I call it "Remembrance".

I initially wanted to make a layered cocktail, but that failed, so I just went with it and kept mixing.

This is a mix of red (hardness & valour), white (purity and innocence) and blue (vigilance, perseverance & justice) alcohols and mixes.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is my recipe for Remembrance:

  • 2 ounces cherry vodka
  • 3 ounces lemon-lime soda
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine
  • 1 ounce blue curacao

Fill a cocktail glass 3/4 with ice.  In a shaker, add the vodka and lemon-lime soda.  Shake and strain into the glass.  Add the blue curacao and grenadine.  Give it a stir and enjoy!

Here's to our great nation!

Cheers!!

Patriotic Celebration

The Patriotic Celebration has red, white and blue alcohol to make it look amazing!

Happy Tuesday!

It's softball Tuesday for me, which I am excited about.

Tonight we are playing a really good team filled with fun players.  It will be a good time.

My second oldest is on a field trip right now with his class which he was excited about, so I can't wait to hear all about it when he gets home.

My oldest, the girls and I are just relaxing at home.....we had a busy day yesterday.

There has been a lot of talk about the 4th of July around here lately which has given me the idea to create a new patriotic cocktail.

I searched through my bar for something blue...blue curacao?

Nope, couldn't find any........ahhhh, blueberry schnapps = perfect!  I haven't used this in a while and it's definitely time to use it again.

This cocktail is SUPER good!

It is definitely one to drink on a warm/hot day.

This cocktail has cake vodka (hence the "celebration" part) and the blueberry schnapps mixes well with it especially topped with the sprite, yum!

I poured some grenadine down the side to give it that American feel and it is perfect!

Rainbow Banana

Labor Day weekend is here!

How exciting.

This weekend for us is baseball practice (surprising, I know) and a local Festival.

We usually spend this weekend up at the lake with my folks, but I think those days may have passed for now.

Tonight I am going to do a short but sweet post.

I need to do it quickly because our 9 year old's 4th grade teacher will be posted at 5:00 at the school and he needs to know who his teacher is soooo badly.

Every 3-5 minutes he asks what time it is, so if we do not leave AT 5:00 I think I will be in lots and lots of trouble.

I wanted to make a blended cocktail today because it's incredibly hot out today.

I initially made this cocktail out of 3 ingredients and it was more in the milkshake form.  Then I decided to add sprite to make it more liquidier.

I personally liked the flavor of the milkshakier one best therefore you all get 2 recipes tonight!  My ratings are below for each cocktail.

Above is an average of the two.

Here is a photo of the end result (thinner version):

rainbow banana cocktail, coconut rum, malibu rum, banana liqueur, rainbow sherbet, sprite, lemon-lime soda

Here is a photo of the ingredients (thinner version):

rainbow banana cocktail, coconut rum, malibu rum, banana liqueur, rainbow sherbet, sprite, lemon-lime soda

Here is my recipe for a Rainbow Banana (thicker version):
(This version gets 5 shots out of 5)

  • 2 ounces coconut rum
  • 1 ounce banana liqueur
  • 1 cup rainbow sherbet
Here is my recipe for a Rainbow Banana (thinner version):
(This version gets 3 shots out of 5)

  • 2 1/2 ounces coconut rum
  • 2 ounces banana liqueur
  • 1 cup rainbow sherbet
  • 1 1/2 ounces sprite
Either way you decide to make it you will use a blender.  Basically all you need to do is put all of the ingredients in the blender and blend them up until completely mixed.  It's just that easy!

Happy Labor Day weekend to all!

Cheers!!

Paranormal Pink

Day 332

Paranormal Pink
4.5 shots out of 5

Paranormal Pink is a nice creamy cocktail with marshmallow vodka that is sure to win over the crowd.

We're back to normal.

We have a birthday party this afternoon and then it's back home to watch our 49ers in the playoffs!

Let's go Niners!!

Time to make a cocktail now so that I can enjoy the party and then......probably too many beers tonight with the game!

I gave tonight's...OK totally this afternoon's cocktail 4.5 shots out of 5.

I received this recipe from one of my awesome twitter followers, Jen.

She had this cocktail around Halloween time and it was called Paranormal Pink......she assumes it's called something else during the rest of the year, but since that's how she had it, that's how I'm going to have it.

I'm ashamed to say that I honestly can't remember if I've ever tried cream soda!

Odd, I know.

This cocktail is great with the cream soda being added to the other ingredients.  I really like it, it adds an awesome creaminess to this cocktail that is so good.  Thanks Jen for this cocktail recipe!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Halloween cocktail, marshmallow vodka, sprite, lemon-lime soda, cream soda

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Paranormal Pink:

  • 1 oz marshmallow vodka
  • 1 oz sprite
  • 1 oz cream soda
  • cherries for garnish

In a short cocktail glass filled 3/4 with ice, add all of your ingredients except the cherries.  Stir up your cocktail well and garnish with cherries.

Here's to my very first cocktail with cream soda!  Delish!!

Cheers!!
