Mesquite Paloma

I was sent a bottle of Crown Royal Texas Mesquite Whisky to sample.  I was not paid or asked to promote it in any way.  All opinions are my own honest opinions.

Crown Royal Texas Mesquite Whisky, ever heard of it?  I hadn't either until I was sent a bottle to try.  When you mix it with pink grapefruit soda, um.......delicious!  May I introduce to you the Mesquite Paloma.

It's finally Friday!

We made it through our first full "Back To School" week.

Out of my 2 elementary girls, one went to school all week.  The other got sick with a fever and missed 2 days.  Oh the joys of other children's germs.

I was excited to try this new flavor by Crown Royal.  It's perfect and just in time for Labor Day weekend!  Can you say BBQ's and Texas Mesquite Whisky?!?

Yes please!

When you open up the bottle you don't exactly have an overwhelming smell of mesquite.  That made me think...well does it even taste like mesquite?

Um yes it does and it's delicious!!

You take a sip and get the whisky flavor which is quickly followed by the mesquite flavoring.  It's pretty darn good!  So good that I can not wait for my husband to come home and try it because I know he will love it!

This whisky can be enjoyed on its own or with a simple mixer, or even a couple simple items.  You don't want to go overboard with all of these different flavors because you want to let the mesquite flavor come through.

I was sent tonight's cocktail recipe along with the bottle.  There were actually 4 recipes sent, but this one I wanted to try the most because I've been dying to try a cocktail with pink grapefruit soda!

First thing's first.  Add the Crown Royal Texas Mesquite.

Then the pink grapefruit soda.

Mix it up and into a glass it goes.

Easy enough right?

For such a simple cocktail, it packs such a great flavor!

Chocolate Covered Marshmallow

Originally posted in November of 2013.  Reposted for National Toasted Marshmallow Day.

Who doesn't love a chocolate covered marshmallow?  This cocktail is light and tastes delicious!

We made it!

Oh I honestly wasn't sure if we would, but it is finally Friday!

Apparently the terrible 2's do not end exactly when the 2-year old turns three.....

Never the less, it is Friday and today the Make A Wish Foundation has turned San Francisco into Gotham City for a 5-year old boy who has leukemia.

Today he is going around town saving a woman from the cable car tracks, saving Lou Seal (our SF Giants mascot), fighting The Riddler and The Penguin!

How fun!

Things like this warm my heart.

After my last two cocktails which were flops, I decided to have a go at it on my own.
I thought chocolate would be a good start.....oh maybe a chocolate rimmed martini glass? (haven't done a rimmed cocktail glass in a while).  I looked through my vodkas and noticed that I haven't used the marshmallow one in a while either, so there you have it.

I decided to create a Chocolate Covered Marshmallow.

This cocktail is pretty good.

It is light and easy to drink......good thing?

Bad thing?

Ah, who cares, it's Friday!

I am really enjoying my cocktail though.

Tomorrow our newly turned three year old will be celebrating her birthday with family, which is almost too much for her to handle in the excitement category.

Then on Monday our girls will be getting (as long as the shipping doesn't take longer then that) their very own bunk bedmore excitement alert!

I sure hope that I can last until then!

Here is a photo of the end result:

  • 1 1/2 ounces chocolate liqueur

Rim a martini glass with chocolate shavings.  In a shaker, add ice, marshmallow vodka, chocolate liqueur, cream and milk.  Shake and strain into chocolate shaving rimmed martini glass.  Sprinkle more chocolate shavings on top.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  Try a new cocktail!

Boozy Very Berry Lemonade Pops

(I was sent  a couple cans of the Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer Berry Lemonade to try.  I was not paid and ALL opinions are my own)

Have you ever wanted something boozy on a hot day, but didn't want to have a cocktail?

Well you're in luck!

Here is a recipe for Boozy Very Berry Lemonade Pops to help you cool down on a warm summers day.

I was sent a few cans of the Spiked Sparkling Seltzer Berry Lemonade to try out.  Along with the cans I was sent a couple recipes that I could try if I wanted to.

I've always wanted to make boozy popsicles, so the first recipe they sent was a no brainer.

Knowing that I was going to make this recipe, I knew that I needed to quickly order a popsicle mold on Amazon.

That sent me down a wormhole of reading 50 million reviews on way too many popsicle molds.

I had to step away and then start again.

I found this popsicle mold from Norpro.  The reviews were good and I decided that I would purchase it.

GREAT DECISION!

This mold is so easy to use and to remove your popsicles from.

That was my biggest concern was when it came time to removing my popsicles........would I only remove a stick from a frozen, stuck popsicle?  Would only half of my popsicle come out?

I found a winner.  So if you are in the market for a popsicle mold, I recommend this mold for sure!

OK, back to the popsicles.

Like I said they were super easy to make.

Measure out the ingredients.

Pour the mixture into the popsicle mold.

Pop in the sticks and let it freeze overnight.

It's that easy.

Seriousely.  It is.

Here's a photo of the key ingredient.  It's comes out clear, but has some flavor.

Here's the deets on the back too.

For me, this popsicle didn't have enough flavor.  I would have added something else to it to give it more of a kick.

Saying that a friend of mine thinks they're DELICIOUS and has already eaten 2 of them.

So there you go!

Boozy Very Berry Lemonade Pops

ingredients:

  • 12 ounces Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer Berry  Lemonade
  • 2 ounces triple sec
  • 4 ounces lemonade
  • handful of raspberries (2 per each popsicle)

instructions:

  1. In a large measuring cup, pour Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer Berry Lemonade, triple sec and lemonade.
  2. Stir ingredients together.
  3. Carefully pour into popsicle mold leaving enough space for expansion.
  4. Cover and place popsicle stick into mold.
  5. Freeze overnight.

I think I will be creating more popsicles in the future.....so stay tuned!!

Spiked Root Beer Float

Spiked Root Beer Float.  I mean come on!  Who had a root beer float as a kid?  Show of hands.

This cocktail right here kicks the old classic drink up a notch.  All you have to do is add whipped cream vodka.  Huh, who knew?

Did you know that today, August 6th is National Root Beer Day?

What?

Yup, so that means......there NEEDS to be a spiked version of this timeless drink!

Am I right?

I do enjoy kicking up classic drinks we enjoyed as children up a notch or two!  I've done it twice so far in my Surely Not Temple and in my Mr. Robert Roy (Roy Rogers grown up name).

Now I will admit.

Are you sitting down?

I was never a HUGE fan of root beer floats.  Don't hate me!

I dunno........something when that ice cream meets the root beer.  It was never my favorite.

Now my gramps used to be asked to make them a lot.  I guess he had the ability to make a good one?  Not sure.  I would get mine.....and then quickly eat all of the ice cream out of it and then very....slowly.....drink the root beer.......or maybe I would dump it?  Can't quite remember.

Anyways, I figured if I was to add ALCOHOL to it, I might just like it a bit better.

WINNER!!

This cocktail is pretty darn easy to make.

Well although technically there are 2 different ways people make them.  It's kind of like the toilet paper debate.  Does the end of the toilet paper go over or under the roll.  Correct answer is over.

Yup, I'm team over!!

But which side am I on in the root beer float debate?

I'm a root beer first kind of gal!

Root beer and whipped cream vodka go in first.

Ice cream second.

Once you've got that all together all you need to do next is put on the toppings!

Whipped cream for sure.....but why stop there?  Add some more toppings that you like!  Sprinkles, marshmallows, chocolate chips, whatever suits your fancy!

There you have it!  A Spiked Root Beer Float!

Now you can enjoy a childhood classic drink a whole new way!

Cheers to kicking things up a notch or two!
