Mojito

The Monday of Thanksgiving week is finally here......or should I say, "Is it here ALREADY?!?!".

This year we are heading to my uncles for Thanksgiving and we are bringing vegetables (trying out a new recipe tonight to see if it's a winner for Turkey Day).  The next day we are doing to my Mother-in-laws house to celebrate Thanksgiving with her and and my Sister-in-law and our nieces and nephew.

We are bringing my mashed potatoes (awesome recipe, email me if you want it!!) and our artichoke dip.....oh and our deep fryer so that we can deep fry the turkey!

Honestly I love splitting up Thanksgiving into two days, it gives us quality time with each side of the family and we don't have that "rushed" feeling of having to be somewhere else.

I received a muddler in the mail from Arctic Chill (stay tuned for a review coming up shortly) and decided what better way put it to use then to make a Mojito.......plus it was the only muddled cocktail I could think of off the top of my head.

I have had a mojito before.......wasn't a big fan.

I have tried a raspberry mojito quite a few years back and remember liking it though......so maybe I need a flavor in my mojito for me to really enjoy it.

I was on a mission to find a mojito recipe......wow there are quite a few different ones out there so I decided to have a go at it myself.

I made one......didn't like it.......dumped it.

I made another one and thought it was OK.

Then I put it aside and started doing a couple things, sat back down here to blog about it, tried it again and I have to say now that it has been sitting here for a little bit (getting a "little" watered down by the ice), it's not bad!  I like it more now.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Mojito, mint leaves, lime wedges, lime juice, simple syrup, white rum, club soda

Here is my recipe for a mojito:

  • 4 mint leaves
  • 2 lime wedges
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 1/2 ounces white rum
  • 1 ounce club soda

In a cocktail glass, drop in your 4 mint leaves and 1 of your lime wedges.  Muddle them up well.  Next put in the simple syrup and muddle that all together again.  Pour in the rum and stir everything together then fill the glass with ice.  Top it off with the club soda and give it a quick stir.

Here is to a new muddler and a mojito!

Cheers!!

Bohemia Michelada

Day 361

Bohemia Michelada
3 shots out of 5

I was given product to sample.  I was not paid for this post and all views and opinions are my own.

I received a six pack of Bohemia beer in the mail on Saturday so that I could try out one of their signature cocktails.  I was very excited when it came, as I do love beer!

I have found that over my years of beer drinking, my tastes have widened and I now like a lot of beers that I had sworn off in the past.

I am quite proud of myself for that I must say.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3 shots out of 5.

When I was reading the ingredients for this cocktail, it kind of sounded like a Bloody Mary but instead of the tomato juice you substitute it with beer.

Quite interesting I must say.

I gave this cocktail a 3 because the flavor of the cocktail was quite good, then only thing that I could not handle was the HEAT from the other ingredients.  My husband on the other hand (who likes spicy things) really likes this cocktail, especially the heat.

I will say that the Bohemia beer that they had sent me is pretty darn good!  It is a lighter beer with a taste all of it's own.

This beer actually has more flavor then some of your light beers and if I had a choice of Bohemia or Corona, I'd choose this one hands down.

Here is the recipe for a Bohemia Michelada:

  • 1 bottle of Bohemia beer
  • 2 oz lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce
  • kosher salt (I used my margarita salt)
  • a lime wedge

Wet the rim of your beer glass with your lime wedge and rim it with kosher salt.  Next pour in your lime juice, worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.  Fill the rest of the glass with Bohemia beer and stir to mix, be careful not to go crazy stirring so that you don't get your beer to foam up.

Thank You to Veronica for sending me out this six pack of beer!  My husband is currently finishing off this Bohemia Michelada as I type, he REALLY likes it!

Cheers!!

Chavela

Day 258

Chavela
5 shots out of 5

Yes, I am still on a high from the World Series!

I remember when we won the World Series in 2010 I was pregnant with our fourth and my mom had told me that I was not allowed to go into labor until after the World Series was over.

My folks are the ones who watch our kids when we go to the hospital to have more kids (lol, that just sounded funny).

Luckily I didn't have her until Nov. 14th, so all was good.

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

A friend of mine, Kinsie, told me about this amazingly good cocktail that they order and love at a restaurant south of us.

It sounded pretty darn good to me, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Winner!!

Another cocktail that includes beer, like my Moon-a-rita.

This is a quick and simple cocktail to make.

Make sure you have your cocktail glass chilled ahead though, otherwise the beer won't taste too refreshing after a while.......unless you're planning on drinking it quickly, then you'll have no worries!

Yes, I did go "a little" over board on the salting of the rim on this glass....oh well.

It's very wipe-off-able.

Here is a photo of the end result:

chavela, modelo beer, mexican beer, silver tequila, lime

Here is the recipe for a Chavela:

  • 1 Negra Modelo beer
  • 1 oz silver tequila
  • 1 lime wedge

In a big goblet sized glass wet the rim with your lime wedge and salt it.  Tilting your glass sideways pour in your beer, sqeeze all of the lime juice you can get out of the lime wedge (you can add more if you like more) and pour in your shot of tequila.  Give it a quick stir and enjoy!!

Here's to local cocktail that include beer!

Salty Dog

Day 256

Salty Dog
4 shots out of 5

Game 4 is tonight.

If we win it we sweep the Tigers and I win my bet with my cousins!

It's funny because the whole post season has been a battle of the family.

My grandma is one of 9, so the whole family is spread out over the US.

Some of our family teams are the Giants, A's, Cardinals and Tigers.

All of them are post season teams and one by one they've all been eliminated except for the final two which are the Giants and Tigers.

If my Giants win, I have one if not two cousin who will be wearing Giants hats at our next family reunion!

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

Did you fall on the floor?  Are you OK?

Yes, you read this right, I did give a cocktail that has gin in it a 4 shot rating.......not only that, gin is one of two ingredients in this one!

I have to tell you that I am NOT a fan of salted rimmed cocktail glasses. My margaritas are (I think the only ones) ordered with out salt every time I order them.

In the spirit of this cocktail (having "Salty" in the name and all) I did salt the rim and DID take a couple sips (on the one section that had the littlest amount of salt) of it with the salt as well.

The whole sipping part is not too bad......it's just that piece of salt that gets left behind in your mouth that you continuously keep licking trying to get rid of it.

I will be wiping the salt off the rim now to finish my cocktail.

Here is a photo of the end result:

salty dog cocktail, shot, gin, grapefruit juice
