Banana Slip

I need to say that I can NOT believe how long it's been since my last post.

These past 2 weeks have been absolutely insane.......I'm surprised I haven't have more cocktails.

We celebrated my birthday with some friends on Saturday, which was a total blast!  Had a few margaritas, a few shots of Fireball (by itself......no mixing needed) and a couple beers.

Yea.......it was a good night!

I haven't done a layered shooter in a while, so a I thought I'd do one.  I found a few online that look "interesting" so be ready!

I also was told of a Fireball cocktail a reader of mine makes at her house (which I'm totally going to try), as well as another shooter Fireball posted on Facebook not too long ago.

Needless to say, I've got some cocktails on the way.

This shooter is OK.

It doesn't scream "I'm the best shooter in the world".......yet it's not the worst.

The equal amounts of both liqueurs seem to sort of cancel each other out, so this shooter doesn't taste like either one too much......just a blend of both.

It was worth trying, since I love creme de banana, but I won't be trying it again.

Here is the recipe for a Banana Slip:

  • 3/4 ounce creme de banana
  • 3/4 ounce Irish Cream

In a shot glass, pour in your creme de banana.  Next over the back of a spoon, layer the Irish Cream on top.

Here's to getting back to making cocktails after a couple of crazy weeks!!

Beam Me Up Scotty

Day 278

Beam Me Up Scotty
4 shots out of 5

Three more days until Thanksgiving!!

We're celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday, so I get to make my De-Licious mashed potatoes twice.......I can't wait!

If you'd like my recipe for my creamy mashed potatoes send me an email at cocktailady@gmail.com.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

This shooter goes down pretty smooth.

I get excited when I get to add creme de banana in......well......anything!

Tonight was no exception.

In this shooter the Baileys and creme de banana blend together as the first taste and then the Kahlua is the kicker at the end.  It's a good shooter and....did you notice my awesome layering skills?

Have I come a long way or what!

I found this recipe here at about.com, I've got to say I've found a lot of good recipes there throughout my blog.

Caribbean Queen

Day 220

Caribbean Queen
4.5 shots out of 5

Boy is it a hot one today!

This cocktail hits the spot on a hot day, and also puts the song "Dancing Queen" in my head......oh and you're welcome!

Today consisted of 2 soccer games (at different fields), 2 soccer team photos (at total different times) and a birthday party.  What a day......cocktail please!!

I gave tonight's cocktail 4.5 shots out of 5.

A lot of these recipes I find tell me to add a "splash" of something, or they tell me to "fill the rest with____".

I like more exact answers, like when you bake something, you need to know if you're adding 1/4 cup of sugar, or if you're just "filling the rest with sugar".

Therefore I have decided that (and I know I've said this before....just couldn't remember in which post) that when a cocktail recipe asks for "a splash" of something, I put in 1/4 oz of it.

I have measured my "splashes" before and they always seem to equal 1/4 oz.

Now when a recipe asks me to "fill the rest with___" that's a little different.

I start with the bare minimum that "may" taste good and then sip, add more, sip, add more, etc., until I get the amount I like.

That's where I get those amounts from.

In case you were ever wondering or dying to know, your questions have now been answered!

Ha ha.

Oh, back to the cocktail, I encourage you to do the same thing I did with the OJ, you can even start with 2 1/2 oz and see if you like it....it may be too bananaey for you, so just add some more OJ.

BMW

Day 209

BMW
5 shots out of 5

It's Tuesday night and time for softball!

Our first playoff game is tonight, so wish us luck!

As I've mentioned before, our team sponsor is our local Irish Pub, so what better shooter to make tonight than a green one (OK, so I totally just made that up, I didn't think--Green......Irish-- until just right now)!

One other thing I'd like to announce is that one of my readers (and yes she's been a reader as she's been pregnant for my entire blog up until about a week ago) Debra had her baby boy Kian on Labor Day!

Congratulations to you and your family Debra!

Kian is our first official Year Of Cocktails Baby!!

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

Bottoms Up!

This is a sweetishly (yea totally made that word up) good shooter.

We all know how much I LOOOOVE my creme de banana liqueur, and Midori......not too far behind!

Mix those two with watermelon vodka and WOW!

This is a great shooter......not sure if it would be too sweet for an entire cocktail or not though.

This shooter ranks up there with my other shooters that are GREAT penalty shots (like my Pineapple Fondue, Baby Woo Woo, Banana Boomer and Dirty Swinger), meaning they go down easy.....a bit......too easy!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a BMW:

  • 1/3 oz creme de banana
  • 1/3 oz melon liqueur
  • 1/3 oz watermelon vodka
In a shaker, add ice and all of the ingredients above.  Shake it up well and strain it into a shot glass (slanted or not).

This shooter is a toast to you baby Kian!  I raise my shot glass to you in a welcome to the world sweet baby boy!

Cheers!!

Banana Cream Cake

Day 182

Banana Cream Cake
4 shots out of 5

If you didn't see my tweet, we won our game last night!

After our games we go to our local Irish Pub (they sponsor our team) to have a couple beers.

Unfortunately when we got back to my friends car her battery had died, so we decided to walk to my house and I'd drive her home.

Long story short, I walked home in my socks, but we were armed with our bats in case anyone wanted to give us trouble!

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

I got tonight's recipe from the Pinnacle website for their Cake Vodka.

I really want to give this cocktail a 4.5, but it's a little too sweet and sugary for me to do so.

I'm thinking it's that 1/2 ounce of simple syrup that goes in this cocktail that made it a bit too much for me.

That aside, this is a pretty darn good cocktail.

The cake vodka gives it such a different flavor, which convinces me once again........flavored vodkas are here on this earth for a purpose!

Gone are the days that I would walk right past the flavored vodkas and rums on the shelf!

Here is a photo of the end result:

  • 1 oz creme de banana
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/4 oz lemon juice

Here's to my brand new bottle of Pinnacle Cake Vodka!  It'll be fun getting to know you!

Mad Dog

Day 179

Mad Dog
2 shots out of 5

I have to admit, I kinda had high hopes for tonight's cocktail.

Lately I've been proven wrong time and time again, so I was thinking that EVEN THOUGH this is a tequila cocktail I would like it.

Boy was I wrong.

I gave tonight's cocktail 2 shots out of 5.

I was REALLY hoping that my old trusty friend Creme of Banana would come through for me and cut away enough of that tequila taste to make me like this cocktail.

It didn't work.

At first I thought, "Hey, this isn't too.........." SQUINCHED FACE!

Oh well, can't like them all.  I taste a hint of the cacao at first followed by a good dose of the banana and then the tequila steps right in front and takes over.

For those of you who enjoy tequila, you may very well enjoy this cocktail.

For those of you who have had a BAD experience with tequila, I'd skip tonight's cocktail.

Banana Boomer Shooter

Day 143

Banana Boomer Shooter
5 shots out of 5

Let me just say, I have been WAITING to be able to use this shot glass ever since I got it!

Finally tonight is the night!

This shot glass is my favorite.

It's narrow, small and shaped like an awesome hurricane glass (my favorite cocktail glass).

I'm sure that's what made this shot taste even that much better!

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

This is another great shooter!  It goes down smooth, tastes like banana......what else could you ask for?

I think I will put this on my list of penalty shots for those fun drinking games as well!

This shooter goes down a little too easy, I must say.

Now if you haven't tried a banana flavored cocktail or shooter yet because "banana's and alcohol" don't sound good together at all, PLEASE DO try it.........if you like bananas in general that is.

I was SOOO there with the, "That's one of the most yuckiest mixtures I've ever heard of......huh, banana's and alcohol.......sure great idea (enter sarcasm and rolled eyes).

I WAS WRONG!  I love this creme de banana stuff!

Anywho, tonight's shooter is one for the books!

Here is a photo of the end result:

  • 1/2 shot vodka
  • 1/2 shot creme de banana

Here's to another great tasting shooter!  I was never one to think shooters could be enjoyable.  Wrong again!

Funky Monkey

Day 137

Funky Monkey
5 shots out of 5

Brass Monkey......that Funky Monkey!

It's funny how some of these cocktails can really get a song stuck in my head.

So far (if I'm remembering correctly) all of the cocktails that have put a song in my head have put good ones, so I'm not complaining.

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

This is a very nice refreshing cocktail if I do say so myself.....and I do.

I got this cocktail recipe from the Dekuyper website.

They've got a good variety of cocktails and I'm going to see if I can find any more good ones that I want to try.

Tonight's cocktail is one of those cocktails that I want to drink fast so that I can make myself another one.  It's a light, fresh tasting cocktail that makes me keep my cocktail glass close at hand and out of the reach of others.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Funky Monkey:

  • 1 shot creme de banana
  • 1 shot light rum
  • 1/2 shot coconut rum
  • 3 shots pineapple juice

In a tall glass, fill it almost 3/4 full with crushed ice.  Add all of your ingredients above and give it a good stir.  Go outside on a warm day (hopefully it's warm the day you make this cocktail), sit down and enjoy your cocktail!

Here's to cocktails putting good songs in your head!

Banana Mudslide

Day 136

Banana Mudslide
4 shots out of 5

I found a recipe for a Banana Mudslide online and threw all of the ingredients into my blender and gave it a whirl.

I tried it.........and it sucked.

Milk was not a good addition to their recipe.....plus their proportions were off.

Therefore, I dumped it all and started over on my own.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

After I made this cocktail.......it hit me......I've already made a mudslide, so I really should have just used that recipe and added my banana flavoring into it......oh well.

(So I totally just peeked at my recipe for my Mudslide, it was a a little bit different.  I also used cream in the mudslide where the initial cocktail I made tonight asked for milk......milk is NOT a good idea).

All in all tonight's cocktail is good, plus I blended it and when I made my mudslide it was a shaken cocktail, so there's another difference right there.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Banana Mudslide:

  • 1 shot vodka
  • 1 shot creme de banana liqueur
  • 1 shot banana puree
  • 1/2 shot kahlua
  • 1/2 shot irish cream
In a blender add ice and all of your ingredients.  Blend it up real good until all of your ice is gone.  Pour and enjoy!!

Happy Saturday everyone!  Here's to bananas in a mudslide!

Cheers!!
