Vampire Shot

I will be the first to admit it....Halloween is totally sneaking up on me.

I thought I had a month to get ready and prepare for it.  Turns out I only have a little over a week.

Things To Do:

-Get both girls Halloween Costumes : Check
-Get youngest sons mask and hair dye: Check
-Get more hair dye for youngest son as he's "changed his mind a little": Still need to do that
-Figure out a non-messy costume friendly dinner: Still need to do that (any ideas are welcome)
-Get Halloween Candy: Check
-Make sure we have Trick or Treat bags/pumpkins: Still need to do that
-Create Halloween Cocktails for blog: work in progress
-Create a blog post listing good Halloween Cocktails: Still need to do that

OK, so I can at least say that I have completed some things on my Halloween Checklist.

Onto today's Halloween Cocktail.

This little shooter isn't half bad.

It does not make you quiver what so ever after you shoot it, which is something that I like about it.

The mixture of the three ingredients is OK, I think if you used less Chambord it would taste better in my opinion.  If I make this one again, I will definitely be changing the amounts to my liking.

I have read the first two books in the Divergent series.  The first book is coming out in the movie theaters soon (fist pumping) and I am very excited to see it!

The third book just came out yesterday and I have already heard that the ending may not be what I was hoping for....apparently a friend of mine has read a lot of bad reviews on it, which is disappointing, but I know I will still read it anyways.

OK, just wanted to share that news with you all, in case there are other Divergent fans out there.

Pineapple Vanilla Martini

OK, so yes it's been a while.

But I swear I have been busy.......insanely busy to be exact!

Wait a minute, I thought summer was supposed to be the relaxing time of the year?

On a good note, we got tickets to Monday's Giants game and Tuesday's double header as well.

Three Giants games in two days?  Not bad if I do say so myself.....and I do.

Besides attending three baseball games, one of my best friends is coming up tomorrow and then we are going out to dinner with a couple old friends that I talked about here.

I am really looking forward to tomorrow night.  Then we have a bunch of things to do to get ready for our oldest's graduation party.

OK, I'm exhausted just typing all that out, good thing I made myself a new cocktail.

I gave this cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

I created this cocktail by simply thinking, what have I not used in a while?

Pineapple juice (or at least I don't remember using it in a while).  Vanilla vodka and pineapple just are great together.  Adding the Chambord on the bottom was a nice twist.

I did not stir in the Chambord, but next time I think I will to see how that tastes as well.

All in all, it was a good cocktail to make after not making once since my last post (I hear your gasps, yes I have not made one since my X-Rated Sunrise).

Here's to a hot hot day here and a cocktail to break up my week!

Vampire Elixir

Day 248

Vampire Elixir
3.5 shots out of 5

Vampire Elixir is a perfectly blended Halloween cocktail sure to a vampire of any kind.

I recently got a Roomba!

If you are not quite sure what a Roomba is let me tell you.

A Roomba is a circular robotic vacuum cleaner.  All you need to do is press the "clean" button and the thing takes off and vacuums your ENTIRE house!

We have all hard wood floors, some tile and an area rug and it takes care of it all.

I love this thing, it has made my life (with four kids) SOO much easier.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3.5 shots out of 5.

Initially I gave this cocktail a 4.....but after a few sips, I decided that it wasn't good enough to be a 4 anymore.

I tried my hand at making my own blended cocktail and some what succeeded.

The Chambord ads a nice raspberry flavor to this cocktail which I really enjoy.  I was going for a red (blood red) cocktail and settled with the color that the grenadine and Chambord gave me.

Next time I'll use food coloring.

This cocktail is nice and creamy, thanks to the ice cream.

It's a pretty good mix of ingredients and easy to drink.

Here is a photo of the end result:

vampire elixir cocktail, halloween cocktail, vanilla ice cream, white creme de cacao, light rum, grenadine, black raspberry liqueur, chambord

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Vampire Elixir:

  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 1 oz white creme de cacao
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 1/2 oz grenadine
  • 1/2 oz black raspberry liqueur

In a blender add all of the ingredients and blend it up until your mixture is smooth.  For effect (which basically failed) you can drip grenadine on the top, or try to drip it down the inside of the glass.

Here's to a pink cocktail and a failed attempt of making it look cool!

La Boheme

Day 231

La Boheme
5 shots out of 5

La Boheme is a delicious vodka cocktail that has elderflower liqueur for that extra touch!

The week is half over.

231 days down and 135 days to go.......no I didn't do my math wrong, I started before the end of February, so I get to do one extra day thanks to Leap Year!

I'm feeling better today then I did yesterday, but still not 100%.
Slowly but surely getting there.

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

I am liking this Elderflower liqueur!!

It adds a taste that  (before this blog) I've never tasted before.

Each ingredient in this cocktail is the perfect proportion and together they make one of my newest favorite cocktails!

I got this recipe from PartyCocktails.com site (which I found is no longer a site, 11/11/16).

This is a must try cocktail and Stacy, it has NO pineapple juice in it!

My husband just came home and say that it's a good cocktail too, so four thumbs up here at The Cocktail Lady's House!!

Y2K

Day 171

Y2K Shooter
2 shots out of 5

Y2K......yea I know a few years too late right?

Ha.

Well the weekend is in full swing and we spent ALL DAY cleaning out our garage and then our storage!

We just got home, put the girls to bed, I made my cocktail and now I'm FINALLY sitting down......aaaahhhhhh.

I gave tonight's cocktail 2 shots out of 5.

Cough syrup........that's the exact first thing that came to mind when I tried this shooter.

It totally tasted like cough syrup and left that film in my mouth that only cough syrup can.

The color of this shooter was not terribly appealing to me........I was expecting anything but........brown.

Oh well.

Needless to say I will not be making this cocktail again, or ever ordering it at a bar.

You live and learn.

I was hoping that since I hadn't had Chambord in any of my cocktails in quite some time that tonight's would be a good one........bummer.

Here is a photo of the end result:

vodka, Y2K cocktail shot, midori, melon liqueur, chambord, black raspberry liqueur

Raspberry Truffle

Day 159

Raspberry Truffle
3.5 shots out of 5

Monday.

Yes I said it, the "M" word.

It marks yet another week of cocktails.

I know I've said it before, but when I sit back and think about it, I CAN NOT believe that I have found/received, made, tried and blogged about 159 cocktails!!

Plus the fact that there are SOOOO MANY more out there for me to try.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3.5 shots out of 5.

I received tonight's cocktail from Sandi.

Sandi wanted to invent a cocktail that tasted like some of her favorite ice creams, so she invented the Raspberry Truffle.

She gave me a few options on the vodka, so I went with the Raspberry Vodka.

This is a yummy cocktail!

I first strained it into a martini glass and it warmed up quickly and didn't taste as good as I knew it should.

Then I poured that into the glass below with some ice, stirred it up and it tasted a lot better.

This is a nice creamy cocktail that goes down smooth.  It's been husband and Stephanie (The Crockpot Lady) approved as well!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Raspberry Truffle:

  • 2 oz Irish cream
  • 2 oz black raspberry liqueur
  • 1 oz raspberry vodka
  • 1/4 oz chocolate syrup

In a shaker add ice and all ingredients above.  Shake it up real well and strain it into a cocktail glass filled with ice.  This will strain slow due to the Irish cream and chocolate syrup, so be patient........or not like I was and shake the hell out of it while it's straining.

Thank You Sandi for a quite yummy cocktail!  That was a great way to start of another week of cocktails!

Cheers!!

Purple Hooter

Day 110

Purple Hooter
4 shots out of 5

This being a Leap Year I am "almost" at my 1/3 of a year mark!

I can't believe it, in 12 more days, I'll hit that mark.

I must say that I have tried sooo many new cocktails during that time and sooo glad that I did!

I have a few new favorite cocktails from the many I've done so far, and predict that I will have a good amount more by the time this year is done.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

I'm not a big "shooter" lady, I'd rather sit my here with a regular sized cocktail in my hand to enjoy at the speed I like.

Also, I feel that I need to judge these shooters a little different.

Reason being, you get it all in one big sip.  You can't sip and sip and sip to keep reminding yourself of the flavor.

That being said, I don't think shooters are solely meant to taste amazingly good.

I think more of the reason people order shooters is to get the job done faster..........get that quick shot of alcohol to get you going.

I think I need to be a little more lenient on shooters (judging-wise) in general for the reasons I named above.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Purple Hooter:

  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1/4 ounce Chambord
  • 1/4 ounce lime juice

In a mixing glass add ice, vodka, Chambord and lime juice.  Stir up all of the ingredients real well so that your mixture turns as purple as it can be.  Strain your mixture into a shot glass.

Here's to a pretty good shot.  I think taking tonight's shot would have been a lot more fun with a group of friends to cheers with.  On that note......

Cheers!!

French Margarita

Day 107

French Margarita
3.5 shots out of 5

Happy Friday everyone!!  It's been "yet another" looong week!

One more week of school and then the boys will be home with me and the girls for the summer.

This school year has gone by quite quickly, I must say.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3.5 shots out of 5.

I was more impressed with the photo on Pinterest then I was with the cocktail itself.

I got this recipe from a pin that led me to The Cooking Channel TV site.

The ingredients sounded like a good twist to the common Margarita, and they are for the most part.

I must say.......there's a lot of tequila in this margarita.

I'm assuming that the Chambord in this cocktail makes it "French" just like in my French Martini.

I think if I was to make this cocktail again, I would just put in 1 shot of tequila, and add the Chambord to the shaker with the rest of the ingredients.

Here is a photo of "my" end result ("my" meaning I stirred it all together):

Here is a photo of the Cooking Channels end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a French Margarita:

  • 2 shots of tequila (yikes!)
  • 1 shot Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 shot lime juice
  • 1/2 shot orange juice
  • 1/2 shot sweet & sour mix
  • 1 shot Chambord
In a shaker, add ice and all ingredients except for the Chambord.  Shake it up good and strain it into a margarita glass filled with crushed ice.  Add your Chambord.

Here's to a margarita with a twist.  Email me if you have any unique margarita recipes for me to try.

Jelly Doughnut

Day 78

Jelly Doughnut
3 shots out of 5

Mixing Bailey's Irish Cream Liqueur and Chambord creates a fantastic jelly doughnut.

I noticed that I did not have any cocktails that started with the letter "J" yet.

I opened my book and saw the name and had to give it a try!

Tonight's cocktail is Jelly Doughnut.

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of doughnuts (insert gasps here).

I do however like the mini chocolate and powdered Entenmann's Doughnuts.

But that's as far as my doughnut liking goes.......sorry.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3 shots out of 5 (it had nothing to do with the word "doughnut" in the title either).

This cocktail definitely (side note: I still can not for the life of me spell the word "definitely" right, I always get that red squiggly line underneath it and need to correct it tastes like Irish Cream with a little bit of the black raspberry flavoring in it.

I can taste the Chambord, but it's just not as noticeable as I would have hoped it would be.

That being said, if you do like Irish Cream, I believe you will enjoy tonight's cocktail.

I will definitely (checked the way I spelled it in the other sentence) finish this one though!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for Jelly Doughnut:

  • 1 1/2 shots Irish Cream
  • 1/2 shot Chambord

In a short cocktail glass, fill with ice and add your Irish Cream and Chambord.  Stir it up good to distribute the Chambord flavor throughout the cocktail and enjoy!

Cheers to The Cocktail Lady liking a "version" of a doughnut that is not Enternmanns!

Chai Berry Martini

Day 68

Chai Berry Martini
4.5 shots out of 5

Welcome to my blog Voyant Chai Cream Liqueur!  This liqueur is very very yummy!  I had never heard of it until Trisha emailed me about it.  Unfortunately it is not yet distributed in my state, so I was unable to go to my local liquor or grocery store and purchase it.  I then decided to email the manufacturer and find out how I can get a bottle of it so that I could try it and blog about it.  I honestly didn't think I would get an email back, but within an hour I checked my inbox and not only had I received an email back from the company stating that they would send me a bottle of their Voyant Chai Cream Liqueur, then even said that they would send me a bottle of their Spiced Rum to try as well!!  I promised to try and blog about them both, and you can find my review for each of their two items they sent me on my Product Review tab.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4.5 shots out of 5.  I really like the flavors I taste in this cocktail!  The three ingredients compliment each other quite well.  I would love to try this liqueur in other cocktails as well, so stay tuned for that!  This martini is definitely creamy and I have to say I have not had one like this before.  Most of the martini's I make are fruity and not creamy, but this is a nice change.  Thank You Trisha for sparking my interest in finding and trying this cream liqueur!  I am enjoying it a lot!

Here is the recipe for a Chai Berry Martini:

  • 1 shot vanilla vodka
  • 2 shots Voyant Chai Cream Liqueur
  • 1 shot Chambord
In a shaker add ice, vanilla vodka, Voyant Chai Cream Liqueur and Chambord.  Shake it up real well so that everything blends together real good.  Strain your cocktail into a chilled martini glass and enjoy!

Here is a photo of the end result:

I want to say a big Thank You to the people who made tonight's cocktail happen.  Your Voyant Chai Cream Liqueur is amazingly good!!

Cheers!!
