Patriotic Berry Fizz

The combination of raspberry vodka, blueberry schnapps, sprite and grenadine.

Ready or not, the 4th of July is just 4 days away!

Are you ready?

Are you ready to admit that the year is half over?  Me either.

Patriotic Berry Fizz is the PERFECT cocktail for the 4th of July!

And just look at it!  Isn't it pretty!!  Those colors make me want to just dive in and drink it all up.

OK, maybe not "dive" in because......you know, the schnapps and grenadine will get you all sticky and such.  So maybe just a big straw?

This cocktail is another one of my layered cocktails.  But really, it looks more like an ombre then a layered cocktail.  Oh I like that.....ombre!

I mean check out that ombre!

Usually I don't care too much for a "bubbly" cocktail, but the amount of lemon-lime soda in this cocktail is quite refreshing!

Not only is it fun to look at, it's delicious to drink too!

And of course you need to garnish it with fresh blueberries and raspberries!  Mmmmm.

Make sure you garnish and have a bowl on the side.  You just may want to dunk a few more in as you enjoy your cocktail!

OH WAIT!!  I didn't tell you!  We got a pool!  OK, no we didn't dig a HUGE hole in our backyard.

We bought an above the ground pool!!  This pool by Intex to be exact!

It's a 12' pool.

The kids have swam EVERY........SINGLE..........DAY since we've gotten it!  It's the perfect size for our yard (they have smaller and bigger ones too).  My husband purchased a cover, filter, chlorine tablets and something else I can't remember to make it perfect for the kids.  We got EVERYTHING on Amazon and we are sooo excited about it!

It's the perfect size for my 3 youngest to play around and have a blast!  We could even toss a few more kids in there and there would still be PLENTY of room!

I hope your plans for the 4th include some delicious food and drinks!  I sure know mine will!  I have a feeling that there will be a lot of BBQing, hor dourve eating and alcohol drinking over the next few days in our family!

OK, onto the recipe.......because I know that's why you all are here!

Dracula's Bite

Dracula's Bite

Black Vodka, vodka, cranberry juice, halloween, halloween cocktail, layered shot

I hope you are all getting your entries in on my UncommonGoods giveaway!  There's only a little bit of time left!

'Tis the season for BLACK VODKA!!

Yup, I busted out my Blavod bottle and decided to create a cocktail!

I already have another one in mind for tomorrow too!!

Exciting!

This year has been so jam packed with so many amazing things, that I have really not had a lot of time to give you wonderful people new and exciting cocktails......and for that I am sorry!

I just bought a brand new bottle of cranberry juice and orange juice today, which gives me two easy yet delicious ingredients to play with!  They will come in handy for sure.

Halloween and Christmas cocktails are my absolute favorite cocktails to make.

They allow me to get a little artsy with my decor in the photos, ha ha.  Given that somehow Halloween is on Saturday, I knew I needed to get my cocktail butt in gear and give you all a couple fun, yet easy cocktails to make.

This cocktail is simple.

Yes it is a layered cocktail, but I'll tell you, you almost can't screw up the layering.

These two ingredients separate pretty darn well on their own and if you make it and feel it's not layered enough........just step back and give it a couple minutes, it'll work itself out.

Now, when you see the quantity of the ingredients below you are going to think by looking at the picture that I mixed them up.  I promise you I didn't!  There are two reasons why they look backwards:

1. I have spider webs around the bottom of the glass which is covering it a little.

2. The ice is towards the top of the glass, so it makes the black vodka look huge in quantity....when it's not.  Anywho, for me, I need to drink this in big sips so that I get a good amount of the cranberry juice in each sip.  I forgot to do that with a couple and totally made that "tequila shot face".....yikes!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is my recipe for Dracula's Bite:

  • 3 ounces cranberry juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces black vodka

Fill a cocktail glass 3/4 with ice.  Pour in the cranberry juice.  On the back of a spoon, layer the black vodka on top and you're all set!

Here's to yet another Halloween sneaking up on me!  I hope I can pull it all together by Friday (kids parade at school).

Cheers!!

Swampy Floor

Swampy Floor is a fun layered Halloween cocktail.  You get to use black vodka in this cocktail.  Winner!!

Halloween cocktail, black vodka, midori, melon liqueur, layered cocktail

Can you tell I have been into layered cocktails and shooters lately?  I just love the way they look, I can't help myself.

Tomorrow will be here before we know it and along with it will come October.

The first of October is the day that we usually start decorating for Halloween around here.

I have to admit.....we already started.

I don't know.......something about how fast this year is flying by makes me want to start everything early before I miss it.  Which is totally fine with me, that way I get to look at our decorations for a longer time.

Today I wanted to make another fun layered Halloween cocktail so I grabbed these three items and started testing out my layers.

I honestly thought that the Midori would float on top of the orange juice......guess I was wrong.

It doesn't matter, I think it still looks cool.

It tastes pretty darn cool too.

I was afraid that I would get a good shot of the vodka right off the top and that it would make me not want to drink the rest.......wrong again.  Sure I tasted it, but it was good!  I got a little mix of some of the stuff underneath it and that first sip went down pretty smooth.  As did the rest of the sips.

I think my creation would be a fun cocktail to serve at a Halloween party.  You could even have a few of these cocktails layered and ready for your guests as they arrive.

Here's to tomorrow starting the last fourth of the year!

Candy Corn Tini

Candy corn is and always will be a staple candy for Halloween.  I've created a Halloween cocktail that now allows you to drink your candy corn too!

Friday!  Woot Woot!  Made it......phewph.......I wasn't sure that I was going to make it to Friday this week, boy it's been a long hard week.

Now that we are here, lets have a cocktail.  Let's have 2 cocktails, shoot it's Friday bring on the booze!!

I was looking in my fridge......oh my "new" fridge (this is not the exact fridge that we bought, but it's close to it) if you were wondering!

I saw my mango puree and thought I might be able to use it to create some kind of candy corn cocktail......then I saw the peach one behind it, jackpot!  I will say that this cocktail would most likely taste better with the mango puree instead of the peach, but I was going for color and the peach is more orange then the mango.

A layered cocktail, got it.

It didn't taste amazing by far.

It didn't make me want to run to the sink and spit it out either.

The layers are thicker, so as you drink you are basically drinking from the top down.  I got half way done and decided to stir up the rest and try it that way.  All in all either way you drink it, it's not half bad.  I won't be making it again though, although it is festive so it has that going for it.

Here is a photo of the end result:

halloween cocktail, candy corn tini martini cocktail, cream of coconut, peach puree, banana liqueur, coconut rum, malibu rum

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is my recipe for a Candy Corn Tini:

  • 1/2 ounce cream of coconut
  • 2 ounces peach puree
  • 1 1/2 ounces banana liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce coconut rum

In a martini glass, layer your ingredients in the order above, top to bottom.  I noticed that it took a couple minutes for the banana liqueur to separate entirely from the peach puree.  It did layer, but there was a little bit of mixing at first.

Happy Friday to you all!  Enjoy your weekend.

Cheers!!

Desert Sunrise

Day 141

Desert Sunrise
5 shots out of 5

Yummmmm!

This is another great "Desert" cocktail by Finest Call.

I am enjoying their cocktails so far.

My theory is that if you find a cocktail recipe on an alcohol companies website, then it's more or less going to be a good one, because they're not going to put a nasty cocktail on their site where they're promoting their brand.

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.

This cocktail is very refreshing.

It's a good add to my summer time cocktails of Back Porch Breeze, Leeches and MCA.

This is a light cocktail and the peach schnapps adds a very yummy blend to the prickly pear syrup and orange juice.

If you want to enjoy a nice tasting cocktail but don't want all of the alcohol content, this is a good choice!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Desert Sunrise:

  • 1 oz prickly pear syrup
  • 1.25 oz peach schnapps
  • 4 oz orange juice
This is a layered cocktail, so first you want to fill up a tall cocktail glass 3/4 of the way with crushed ice.  Pour your prickly pear syrup in first, then your peach schnapps, then your orange juice.

Take a step back and admire your amazing layering job.  Then stir it up so that you can taste everything instead of just orange juice!

Thank You to Finest Call for yet another yummy cocktail recipe!!

Cheers!!

Red White & Blue Shooter

Day 103

Red White & Blue Shooter
2.5 shots out of 5

Happy Memorial Day to those of you who live in the USA.

What a well needed holiday weekend that was!

My boys only have 2 weeks of school left and this was a good break from the crazy last few weeks we've been having!

I gave tonight's cocktail 2.5 shots out of 5.

Filling my shot glass up 1/3 of the way with grenadine had me not wanting to try this, because I thought it would taste too grenadiney-syrupy.

I actually tasted the peach schnapps and blue curacao more then the grenadine though, I must say.

This shot wasn't horrible at all.

It wasn't my favorite cocktail in the world either......it just laid somewhere in between.

I tried my "hardest" to layer this one, I really did!!  All of the different versions I saw of this shot had the perfect layers in them......not mine.

My grenadine went well (could you imagine if it didn't?  Then I'd really suck at this), then came the peach schnapps........yea, not so well.......but the blue curacao floated on top just fine.

Oh well......maybe after another 103 days I'll get the hang of this....

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for Red White & Blue Shooter:

  • 1/3 shot blue curacao
  • 1/3 shot peach schnapps
  • 1/3 shot grenadine

In a shot glass pour your grenadine, then over the back of a spoon tilted down toward the side of the shot glass, slowly pour your peach schnapps.  Again on the back of that same spoon held the same way, pour your blue curacao slowly.

Cheers to layered cocktails......one of these days I tell you.....one of these days!!

Seduction

Day 96

Seduction
2 shots out of 5

Let me tell you..........this cocktail will NOT be seducing me ANY time soon!

Do not be fooled by it's name, this cocktail is nothing special.......at all.

Figures, being Monday night and all, that tonight's cocktail wouldn't be all that good.

I gave tonight's cocktail 2 shots out of 5.

I took a big sip for my first sip.  HUGE MISTAKE.

It burned in a weird way......didn't like it.

I think for some reason that it was the Hazelnut liqueur in it that burned my throat.

I've taken a few more (smaller) sips since and it didn't burn like that first sip.

If you notice my cocktail photo, the Irish Cream looks odd, that was due to my "floating" method.......which we all know I suck at.

Now when I look at my cocktail, the Irish Cream has all come together and it literally looks like an "actual" layer.

The other two liqueurs though......ah......not so much.

I will not be making this cocktail again, No Thank You!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Seduction:

  • 1 shot Hazelnut Liqueur
  • 1 shot Banana Liqueur
  • 1 shot Irish Cream
This cocktail is a "floater", which basically mean that you have to pour each ingredient in a certain order, "on top" of the ingredient below it.

In a short glass, pour your Hazelnut Liqueur.  Over the back of a spoon, slowly pour your Banana Liqueur in next.  Over the back of that same spoon, slowly pour your Irish Cream on top.

Last night the Frangelico was amazing in the Hazelnut Heaven.  Tonight it just doesn't work with the other two ingredients.  Can't win 'em all.

Cheers!
